"granny trolley" as my husband calls them. You know, the shopping trolleys on two wheels? I really want one. I really struggle carrying shopping and chasing little ones. I don't like putting it on the back of the pushchair as it ruins the pushchair and there's the inevitable tip up when little one gets out of the pushchair. It seems like a no brainer to me but my husband says "you're not even 30 yet!". I can use my trolley and LO can walk alongside me which she prefers!
AIBU or is my husband? Grin

I live in a famous university town and you see tons of students with them and also anyone who doesn’t want to drive to the shops! I’ve had one for a couple of years and have managed to get pretty big shops in it including heavy cans and bottles..... get one!

christmasathome · 22/11/2019 08:47

I want one! Ive wanted one for years.

Our parking space is quite a walk from our house and I would love one for the back of the car to take the shopping home.

Damntheman · 22/11/2019 08:57

You can get quite nice looking ones these days! I had one when I was 26 because I had no car and the shop was a 30 minute walk. It was MAGICAL to put the heavier groceries in so I could use the hiking bag for the lighter things and then just trundle it on home. Wonderful!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/11/2019 08:59

I'm certainly much older than you, and I'm reluctant to get one.

Which is absolutely daft when you think about it, since nobody turns a hair at wheeled carry-on bags or suitcases, no matter what age you are.

It's the old-lady connotations, along with the sludgy lilac or beige raincoat and the woolly hat.😱 I'm sure I've seen some jazzier- looking trolleys, though, not the standard-old-biddy tartan.

I think you should get a jazzy looking one, use it with aplomb and unashamedly start a trend!

TheQueef · 22/11/2019 09:00

Get one.
Seriously.
And then start the climb to carry more and more.
I've got as far as carrying a microwave home on my sack barrow flowery shopper it's addictive Grin

I know a 33 year old that has one as she doesnt drive.I must admit it does look a little unusual but so what, she likes it.

Hepsibar · 22/11/2019 09:16

Do what you want, there are some quite funky ones, so it doesnt have to be the old tartan version and you can even get them for children too.

On days when you are shopping with your husband, just let him carry all the shopping so as not to offend him by using it.

Or you could get a tricyle with a little cart on the back for children and shopping ...

WildCherryBlossom · 22/11/2019 11:53

A friend of mine has one. Classic tartan, like Paddington Bear. It's brilliant. She is equipped for literally every eventuality. Need suncream, brolly, wellies, snacks, wet pipes, colouring pens, kitchen sink...? She's got it.

Lunafortheloveogod · 22/11/2019 11:58

I had one a few years before the pushchair. I punked mine up it was just tartan but I sewed patches n studs onto it and done the handles with the colourful duct tape. It could carry the big bag of dog food I couldn’t, it was the difference between having to put an order in and wait a week (oh the days before prime) and pay an extra £5 when the shop down the hill had it 😂.

Get one.. tart it up.. make it fancy.. do the commode too and your Dorset box 😂

BarbaraofSeville · 22/11/2019 12:30

Until your DH is willing/able to help you with the shopping, his opinion about you buying a practical solution to the problem you are having is irrelevant.

Just get one. An apartment we've rented in Tenerife a couple of times has one and we used it to walk to the supermarket to stock up with booze. Worked brilliantly.

I don't know why they have such a stigma as they're perfect for people who live in walking but not carrying distance from the shops and probably help reduce car use because people can walk instead of driving/getting a taxi or delivery or struggling with bags of shopping on the bus.

Frootytooty567 · 22/11/2019 19:24

Haha! You've all convinced me! I've bought one! And it's been dispatched Grin DH will find out in a few days lol! Thank you all for the advice and laughs!

I have one, had it for years. It's got a geometric print and a separate section for frozen food. I can get a weekly shop for 4 people in it and my backpack. I do drive, but I'd rather walk.
I got it when I was 31 because I hated plastic bags. Lots of people in European countries use them at all ages. Only the UK calls them granny trollies.

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 22/11/2019 22:00

I've got a leopard print one, which I wield with aplomb

QueenofallIsee · 22/11/2019 22:02

I looked wistfully at them in Paris, beautiful & stylish women used them everywhere! What a great idea they are

Rosspoldarkssaddle · 22/11/2019 22:13

Went to the clothes show ages ago and saw some awesome trolleys there. Big, modern printed jobs. Fab and very practical

GoGoLego · 22/11/2019 22:17

When I was at uni several of my friends used one so late teens early 20s as the supermarket was up a hill yanbu
