Christmas spend

How much do you spend on nieces and nephews at Christmas? And is this the same amount that you spend on children who you are friends with the parents?
Obviously I know that income will dictate some of the amount that you spend. I get anxiety around how much I spend which I know is stupid but I can’t really help it.

Well I don’t have any. Both my brothers TTS with their wives but both couldn’t conceive. I’d love a nephew or niece.

silencebeforethebleeps · 18/12/2019 21:14

I don't have any nieces or nephews or parents I'm friends with.
I only buy for my DH (£200 approx.) and my parents (£200 between them).

ChanklyBore · 18/12/2019 21:17

No rules. Just something they’d like, and reasonably even - so no one feels hard done by. If I see something I know they will like I will get it.

Rough overall spend but it’s not about the money.

LoobyLou1976 · 18/12/2019 21:21

£35 on my niece, same on my nephew. My brother and I don't buy for each other, nor do we buy for brother-in-law or sister-in-law as we agreed it was silly exchanging gifts when we don't really need anything. My husbands birthday is 31st January, my brothers is 29th January. They give each other the same £20 back and forth each year!
For kids, we spend anywhere from £300-£400 each including stockings. We don't do Christmas Eve boxes.

katy1213 · 18/12/2019 21:25

I like (some) of my friends' children far more than I like any nephews/nieces and this is reflected in presents.

chillandrelax · 18/12/2019 21:28

Also don't buy for my adult siblings that have children.

Cherrysoup · 18/12/2019 21:29

£10 per small cousin, all under 9. £50 to nieces and nephews.

dementedma · 18/12/2019 21:33

I have 5 niblings . When they were wee I bought them gifts. Now they are teens and adults I don’t buy them gifts and their mother doesn’t buy mine any gifts. Much easier

BarbedBloom · 18/12/2019 21:36

We spent £30 on our three nephews this year. We don't have children and don't buy for friends. We spend the same for birthdays. We do buy for the parents too though so quickly adds up.

TARSCOUT · 18/12/2019 21:36

2 nephews, 1 neice all now over 21. £20 each. No longer buy for any friends or children, easier all round. My DSis however buys for anyone and everyone including staff from her old workplace!

BarbedBloom · 18/12/2019 21:36

Sorry, 30 each I meant

NeedAnExpert · 18/12/2019 21:37

How much do you spend on nieces and nephews at Christmas?

Zero.

And is this the same amount that you spend on children who you are friends with the parents?

Yes.

Also be interested to know how much you spend on your own kids too

£80-100 max. We do the 4 gift thing.

and does the spending limit include things like stocking fillers and Christmas Eve boxes (for those of you who do them?)

Stocking is usually about £15-20 and included in above. Never done Xmas eve box.

We have a very very low key Xmas. It’s all made up bollocks anyway!

christmasathome · 18/12/2019 21:38

About £10 each, only have one friend with her first child - she has always bought for mine so i have bought for hers and yes its the same.

dontcallmeduck · 18/12/2019 21:40

I spend up to £20 on nephews/nieces. Used to spend more but there’s too many of them now. I don’t buy for my friends children.

Dollymixture22 · 18/12/2019 21:54

Around £100 each on nieces and nephews.

Around £25 on friends children.

Yesterdayallmyfish · 18/12/2019 21:57

Up to £20 on nieces and nephews. Between £150 and £200 on each of my DC. Nothing on friends' DC.
