For lunch today I had Weetabix and they were absolutely delicious! So I was considering posting if it would BU if I only served Weetabix to my DH from now because I am bored of cooking.

Then my DH came home with a bouquet of flowers for me and a M&S dinner.

So obviously I would BU to present Weetabix from tomorrow onwards.... So can I have some ideas on what would be a fitting dinner for a man who really (sometimes!) I do not deserve!

Steak and a lovely bottle of red?

Is it a special dinner? What does he usually like?

KittenLedWeaning · 20/11/2019 19:22

We need some clues as to what your husband likes to eat.

churchandstate · 20/11/2019 19:25

Special occasion or just decent meal?

Yarboosucks · 20/11/2019 19:27

He loves Japanese food and Thai - I do cook these quite a lot.

He like a good steak and we have that about once a month.

I guess I am hoping to hear about other peoples "reward/recognition" ideas because his favourites are established and maybe I need to reinvigorate my thinking to reignite my culinary ambitions!

Decent meal ideas - the things that are fun (not arduous) to cook and that others enjoy.

Doesn't have to be posh / expensive - just appreciated and yummy

If I wanted to cook something special for DH it would be beef wellington or a game ragu with tagliatelle.

churchandstate · 20/11/2019 19:29

Fun and not that arduous: chicken kievs (breaded and shallow fried)? Homemade curry?

KittenLedWeaning · 20/11/2019 19:30

On the lines of something a bit different - is there a 'childhood favourite' sort of dish he likes, but that you hardly ever have? My husband loves bangers and mash; also stew and dumplings and (bleurgh) faggots.

Vongole (yum) or leek and blue cheese risotto with crispy bits of bacon browned in olive oil before adding the other ingredients.

Cooking Italian dishes always seems to be far more fun and a lot easier to put together than other cuisines. Add warm crusty rolls/bread and a bottle of Chianti or Valpolicella and enjoy!

Childhood was very strange and spent largely overseas and so British stuff seems really stodgy to him - he is a Brit but only ate "old school" favourites at boarding school - so it is mass catering to him!

Pineapple and prawn red Thai curry. NOM.

Yarboosucks · 20/11/2019 19:42

Vongole is an idea! I am mega allergic to shellfish, so would have to wear gloves and ban any snogging! But he does love shellfish, so it would be a selfless act.

I am going to take inspiration from MasterChef and it will be monkfish tomorrow with that vermouth sauce.

I was watching too. Monkfish with a vermouth sauce - delish! Will you make Monica's crepe suzette souffles with caramel sauce for dessert? I'm going to have a go at those this weekend.

If you're going to be selfless reduce the risk and get a jar of Delicius clams. It might not look quite as appealing without shells, but your vongole will be stuffed full of tasty clams and he'll love it.
