What job do you do if you've left teaching?

8 years primary experience looking to move on but I don't know if I need a new school or different job. If you have left teaching hit me with the job you do now. I'm also not looking to do another degree

I took a year out to work with children therapeutically in a hospice. I absolutely loved it but the pull to go back to teaching was too strong 🙈 I’ve now just had my second child over a year ago and I’m not returning properly but instead have registered with a supply agency and doing some supply. I love it! Pick and choose my days, schools etc. Good money. It’s working out really well! X

I know 2 former teachers who have gone on to do accountancy qualifications (on the job trained and sponsored) and one who has become a paralegal.
Depending on your degree both of them could be good options - they can really build on teaching skills.

I temped, then went into being a PA in investment banking for double the salary, as they used to prefer PA's with degrees. I'm now doing a Counselling post grad Diploma, as I realised the values etc & the banking world, are to me, horrible. Jaw droppingly amoral & venal incidents on a daily basis start to leave a bad taste in your mouth.

I trained as a driving instructor and did that for a few years, but then went back to teaching...

Following with interest!

Worked more on a side business I was already running. Still doing it now, selling fetish stuff.

Wouldn't go back into education regardless of the role or pay.

Foster carer. There are different schemes, ones where you are self employed and get allowances, and ones where you are employed and on call for emergency placements.

My friend is now a business development director at a large company. He left teaching, swallowed his pride a bit and just took the first graduate scheme offered to him (retail management programme I think) and worked his way up quite quickly to HQ. V. clever Cambridge graduate. Teaching nearly broke him.
