For various reasons I’m back living with my mum and dad and have been For a good 9 months.
I’ve just applied for a credit card and have been accepted so I can make a big one off purchase which I know I’ll be able to pay back.
My mum and dad are absolutely totally and utterly against credit cards and I’ve just had a gut wrenching feeling I won’t be in when the post comes... how obvious is a card in the post? Surely they wouldn’t splash across Virgin Money Credit Card??

Any cards I've had through the post have been in a plain unmarked envelope. The generally try and avoid making them easy to spot to cut down on theft.

Just lie and say it's a new debit card. They surely can't be against bank accounts?

LonginesPrime · 19/11/2019 12:37

why can’t they be more specific!

Because they want to make sure the address they send it to is the person's actual home address?

I would have thought your parents should have realised you've fallen on hard times from the fact you've moved back in with them (not least as it doesn't sound like an ideal setting for your mental health), so if it's for living expenses, they would hopefully understand that you're using a credit card because you need to.

Just because they're doing you a favour in letting you move in for a while, it doesn't mean they own you or that you are a child again.

I hate it when my own mother does me favours with strings attached, and over the years I've got better at calling her out on it. She can do me the favour if she wants to, but if it turns into a 'deal', then she knows I'm out.

Are your parents from a different culture?

Wherearemycrayons · 19/11/2019 15:01

English heritage just always been sensible with money, almost too sensible!
I suppose you’re all right I should probably just chill out, I am an adult now after all 😂
The purchase is necessary I wouldn’t take a credit card out for a Christmas present for example

Well,my credit card company actually have their name on the envelope! Sorry OP,I know that's not what you want to hear. If it's any consolation,it's not Virgin (if that IS the one that you're actually with and you're not just using it as an example!).

Tell them to mind their own business.

If they actually open your post, then you need to move out ASAP.
