Bloody TK Maxx pricing stickers!

Been picking up quite a lot recently for Christmas. Lots of good finds in TK Maxx. I’m trying to remove prices and labels as I buy so that I’m not caught out when wrapping. Last year it felt like I spent hours removing labels/prices.

So far so good but dear God what is it with the sticky pricing labels in TK Maxx? Trying to get the bastarding thing off and every-single-bloody-time there remains those 4 little dots still on the item!!!! What is that all about?

Can someone please explain why TK Maxx choose to use these labels? Anyone here work for them and can explain? Also, is it just me?

It's because they had a big problem with people peeling off the labels and swapping cheaper labels onto more expensive items. The labels are hard to peel/leave residue so that it's more obvious of people try to do this.

BarbaraofSeville · 19/11/2019 10:17

It's because they want to pretend that the random 'brand that doesn't exist outside the TK Maxx marketing department' was £200 but they will kindly sell it to you for £30, which is what it is worth anyway.

Get some sticky stuff remover from Lakeland

Bluejeantreefrog · 19/11/2019 10:21

I've discovered that some of the price stickers (after trying ages to get one off a photo frame) have a blue raindrop on. These come off easily if you wet them!

It's infuriating at times. Just put a normal sticker on or tag them.

twoshedsjackson · 19/11/2019 10:37

I thought I was the only one bugged by this! The label swapping explanation makes sense. I second the recommendation from mrsbyers for Sticky Stuff Remover.

maldivemoment · 19/11/2019 11:31

I had no idea people tried to swap the labels! God, you’d be there for bloody hours! But also, doesn’t a description come up on the screen when item is scanned? Surely the person scanning would notice if you were trying to put through a sideboard as a pair of socks!

Nail polish remover works well.

Coughsyrupsucks · 19/11/2019 11:41

I get everyone’s presents in TK Maxx or Homesense and this drives me insane every year! YANBU.

RusholmeRuffian · 19/11/2019 11:44

Totally agree. I spend way too long scraping labels off with my fingernails and trying not to damage things from TK Maxx.

Lunafortheloveogod · 19/11/2019 11:46

Stops label swappers, till descriptions can be vague.. ie fragrance (could be Britney could be Gypsy Water) or its just a rough description which you might not cross examine unless it comes up cosmetics and your holding a frock.

If it won’t soak in coconut oil/baby oil works too or wd40 but two of the three don’t smell as bad as the latter. Usually anything oily gets any sticky bits.

gavisconismyfriend · 19/11/2019 11:51

I HATE labels! Bought some stuff called Sticky Stuff remover, by De-Solv-it (see what they did there Grin) and it is remarkable. Smells pretty toxic but that soon fades and it works on most things.

LoyaltyBonus · 19/11/2019 11:53

Yes! It renders their stuff practically useless as gifts.

I bought a wedding present recently (which actually it's just occurred I've never had a thank you for!). I spent ages with nail polish remover trying to get rid of the sticky residue, but you could still see where it had been. I was very unhappy giving the gift but didn't have time to do anything else.

DontCallMeShitley · 19/11/2019 11:55

I use WD40 for the stubborn ones. It seems to be the washable items that have the really stubborn ones but the sticky stuff doesn't come off in water. It's like trying to remove those welded on labels from jam jars and the like, no matter how long you soak them they still don't come off.

Another irritation is that some of the clothing labels have a sticky label stuck on a tag, and the print is very faint and very very tiny so you can't see the price.

moreismore · 19/11/2019 11:57

I used a magic sponge on label residue the other day and was like actual magic. So easy.

Honeybee85 · 19/11/2019 12:00

Can’t you hide the prices with a black marker? Or some very dark colored nailpolish.

Cannothtinkofaname · 19/11/2019 12:25

On Chris Evans breakfast show last Christmas, one of the tips was to use a hairdryer on labels. I've tired it and it does work. Might be worth a try.

ControversialFerret · 19/11/2019 12:26

WD40 does the trick. Peel label off, squirt a bit of WD40 on some kitchen roll or the edge of a rag, rub the sticky residue away.

MrsBethel · 19/11/2019 12:38

Coconut oil works brilliantly on sticky label residue. Leave it on the residue for a few mins, then wipe the lot off with Fairy liquid.

jollybobs89 · 19/11/2019 12:40

Omg I hate it it's soooo annoying!!!

I find if you get some really hot water and fairy liquid and hold a sponge over it for a bit so it soaks the label it comes off easy!!
