To report neighbours to housing association?

Parking has always been a nightmare round here because we live in a full de sac. It’s particularly hard to get onto my drive anyway, because of where the house is.

But two of our neighbours, one of which is definitely housing association, have at least eight cars between them. Most of those are on drives but it means that the cars they use most often are taking up spaces on the street so visitors etc have literally nowhere to park.

Aibu to report them to the housing association? One of the neighbours is allowing a friend to store broken down cars on their drive, one had a works van belonging to a big company (there’s a restriction on the deeds saying you can’t do this).

I hate being a grass but it’s making it horrible round here.

Are there rules about this in their tenancy (if you know)? Have you spoken to them about it? If so, it's not unreasonable to speak to HA, but I'd go the personal route first unless they're really unapproachable.

PepsiLola · 18/11/2019 12:18

I personally wouldn't speak to them first, as they would know complaints have come from you and could turn nasty.

I would go to HA.

I would have a word with the HA and ask whether the restriction re: the works van in your deeds also applies to their tenants. Maybe you can ask about the broken down cars but I'm not sure how different that is to them having fully functionong cars on their drive. You aren't saying that a car repair business is being carried out are you?

Minionbums · 18/11/2019 14:43

There’s been at least one conversation between the two sets of neighbours about the cars, one is annoyed that the other parks outside their house Hmm.

I’ve got no idea whether there’s a restriction in their tenancy but the deeds would override that anyway I’d have thought?

What do you want the HA to do?
What if only one of them are renters?

YABU to report them.
Report them to a traffic warden if you absolutely must 'report' but risk a complaint on LL file over parking is just weasely.

So you are going to grass up the tenant. What about the owner occupier?
Seems a bit shit to potentially lose one family a home, but say nothing to the others just because they own their home and you are a bit of a coward

Can you clarify this bit, because I'm confused. The deeds state that you can't park a company van on/outside your property? So if you have a job for say, BT, you can't park at home?

ItsNovemberNotChristmas · 18/11/2019 15:32

Doodoobear a lot of new build estates don't allow vans to be parked

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 18/11/2019 15:40

It is a bit of a bugger - I can see why it's great for the employer (don't have to store the vehicle, or provide employee parking), and the employee (who doesn't have to drive to work before getting started for the day), but since they only use it for work so they'll have another car too, and it's invariably a transit or similar, which parked outside the house does rather block the window, it's not so great for everyone else.

Aaarrgghhh · 18/11/2019 15:59

Why would you report to the housing association? Especially when only one is a tenant and the other owns. What do you hope to achieve? I don’t know who you would call but if it’s an issues with space or lack of then someone to do parking is who you need to call.

Minionbums · 19/11/2019 10:23

I’m pretty sure they’re both housing association - I know for sure that one is, the other I’m not sure.

Apparently the clause about works vans is pretty standard now on new builds. I was surprised about it too, but I can see why now - at least in part because of the issues it causes with parking.

I do feel pretty weasly about it - thanks for that, but the way - but it feels absolutely awful round here at the moment, I feel like I can’t have visitors because there’s nowhere for them to park, and sometimes I can’t even get on or off my own drive. And who wants to get into an argument with their neighbours?

I’ll explore parking options - maybe the council.

Thanks anyway guys.

Cars are allowed to park on the street. There is no legal limit to how many cars someone can own.

Don't get me wrong, it's annoying as fuck, but there's nothing you can do - and there's no point in reporting them because they're not actually doing anything wrong.

It's like the street my grandparents live in, there's space for one car per house, but some houses have 3/4, so one each for mum and dad and each of the older teens have one too.

There's nothing that can be done. Sorry.

SciFiScream · 19/11/2019 10:58

I live in an house built by Wimpey. My dad lives in the same style of house built by Wimpey near by. Both houses built late 80s both sets of deeds say no commercial vehicles to be parked there.

It has never, ever been enforced and never will.
