AIBU to be annoyed with dishonest eBay sellers?

I purchased a hoodie for my DS for Christmas from eBay, listed as new with tags and never worn in the description. I am a lone parent on a low income and cannot afford to buy the brand he has asked for new in the shops. Upon opening the parcel, it has sand in the pockets, a faint smell of washing powder and grass in the hood. It doesn’t even have a bloody tag on it! Just the plastic that attaches it. The material is bobbled and the labels worn out.

What is wrong with people?! Why are they so dishonest in order to gain a few quid? I have sent a return request with a description of the faults and pictures, only to receive a message back stating ‘The top is brand new with tag attached! I don’t know what you have done but that top is not the one I sent’

I give up on eBay, this isn’t the first time this has happened Angry

Did you pay through PayPal? I've read stories from posters on here who have had dishonest buyers. They send out perfect goods and the buyer launches a false claim on PayPal saying that the goods were not as described, PayPal refund and the seller loses out.

Could you not do the same? Only this time you aren't putting in a false claim so should be fine getting your refund?

You can take out a case against the seller on Ebay and ask for a refund.

RandomWok · 18/11/2019 10:39

EBay usually finds in the favour of the buyer. Open a dispute with them. Some people are vile.

JollyAndBright · 18/11/2019 10:41

Don’t return it at your expense this is a clear ‘Item not as described’, open a case against the seller and report them to eBay for it.

Winterdaysarehere · 18/11/2019 10:43

Repert not as described and get your money back. Seller pays postage.

I have done all of the above. Seller is arguing with me through messages claiming that I have defaced the item within 20 minutes of collecting it from the pick up point Hmm even though I have sent clear images that shows it is a used item. I have to wait another week for eBay to take the matter further, hopefully a decision is made in my favour.

eBay will see in your favour, they almost always do. You may have to wait to escalate the case in a few days though, sounds as though the seller isn’t playing ball.

Don't worry about the seller arguing through messages. Just repeat your description and ask for your money back.

Don't put anything too abusive in the messages because ebay read them!

I once told a seller they could "kiss their 100% feedback goodbye" and ebay sent me an email giving me a bollocking because of it.

Just open your dispute and ebay will pay you back the item and the postage.

I have purchased 2,287 items on ebay over the last 10 years or so - I have experienced issues for maybe 10 of those items and only once was I left out of pocket and that was when I let a seller talk me into not accepting a full refund.

Coconutbug · 18/11/2019 11:42

eBay will usually vote in your favour, it is frustrating

Elementalillusions · 18/11/2019 11:55

I agree with other posters, you don’t need to communicate with the seller, they have shown themselves to be a liar, so there is nothing to be achieved from engaging with them further, just keep it to the resolution centre.

SpeckledyHen · 18/11/2019 11:59

Be patient. You will win the case . Bloody annoying though.
