Sorry, not as juicy as it sounds

I'm an adult student, my final assignment for my access course is due at 9am tomorrow morning and as I technically finished college 3 weeks ago I forgot all about it!!

So can anyone help please?

"Explain how ethical considerations influence decision making in healthcare"

Any help is massively appreciated! Grin

YABU, write your own essay.

carrots555 · 17/11/2019 23:14

Why don't you start with a spider diagram just to get some starter ideas down....?

Or watch some episodes of Casualty on iPlayer for inspiration hahaha

DramaAlpaca · 17/11/2019 23:17

Looks like you're in for an all nighter Grin

Now get off MN & get it done. No cheating

strugglingstudent1 · 17/11/2019 23:21

Look up the four principles of biomedical ethics and also try searching ethical decision making in the NHS for some clues and reading, they usually have things you can download.

strugglingstudent1 · 17/11/2019 23:29

@middlemuddle life saver 🙌🏼

Some decisions you can think about using 4 principles:

  1. funding for expensive medications (not all are funded - some require NICE approval)
  2. treatments which could be curative but have high risk of making patient worse (eg surgery in person with many co-morbidities)
  3. Consent - not always easy to determine competence. Eg young teens, cognitive impairment, dementia, delirium, alcohol/drugs. Self-discharge from hospital.
  4. genetic testing for inheritable conditions - some relatives may not want to know but others may, and the outcome of the test may become obvious if they are in close contact (issue of consent, autonomy).

Look if Values Xchange... New Zealander ethicist...

Lots of ideas there...

Speaking of ethics... Grin don't cheat.... You'll be thrown off your course if discovered.

Or ask for a 48 hr extension as you were so overburdened /disorganised

Countrylifeornot · 18/11/2019 03:10

I'd do something around the Mental Capacity Act and Best Interest decisions, possibly focusing on DOLS. There is so much stuff out there to read, and it's mostly straightforward (apart from the odd test case / controversial decision - but don't write about those Smile).
Good luck OP!

Hippocratic Oath should be in there?

Nancydrawn · 18/11/2019 03:20

There is a delightful irony about asking for help with an ethics paper!

Bluerussian · 18/11/2019 06:45

Oh trust me it happens all the time Nancydrawn.

middlemuddle · 18/11/2019 10:11

Hope you got it done!
