Baby was feeding fairly constantly for first three weeks but in the last few days it has really settled down over the last couple of days. Baby now feeds for between 5-10 mins at a time, couple of times in the morning, early afternoon, then a couple of times at night. Through night she is only waking once or twice for a feed, again no longer than 15 mins. Is this too infrequent for this early on?

If she is gaining weight well, and having enough wet nappies then it’s fine.

My eldest fed every 90 minutes day and night, my youngest has 5/6 feeds in 24 hours at that age.

Is she gaining weight and having wet nappies? If so, then she is probably super efficient at feeding and doing just fine. Enjoy it. Flowers

If gaining weight, and plenty of wet and dirty nappies, then it's fine. Do your breasts feel 'emptied' after a feed? My dc2 could do a full feed in five minutes flat, whereas dc1 took probably 20-30 minutes at the same age.

Is she still having plenty big wet nappies. Sounds ok to me, providing you have a good milk supply and she is feeding effectively, keep an eye on her weight gain and nappies. Out of interest what does she do if you offer her a feed between these times?

By at night do you mean in the evening? And then through night = during adult sleep hours? It would be easier to judge with rough timings. If for example we're talking 8am / 11am / 2pm / 5pm / 8pm / 12am / 3am - not a problem. That's roughly a 3 hour routine with a longer 5-6 hour stretch in the night, which is pretty much the dream at this age.

If it's more like 7am / 9am / 2pm / 11pm / 2am - that is very sporadic and I would say not really enough.

Some babies are very efficient feeders, so length of time feeding is really immaterial. Are you offering both sides? Is she alert when she is awake? There aren't many developmental milestones at this age to note - but does she generally react to stimulus - light, sound, sensation? Getting at least 5-6 wet and/or dirty nappies a day? Is she still being weighed regularly?

plenty of nappy changes and she has gained 1 and a half pounds since birth. I just thought it seemed early to be an efficient feeder at this stage but I feel reassured now!

Sounds fine to me! Their feeding gets more efficient. Weight gain and nappies tells you all you need to know.

I remember night feeds with my daughter taking about an hour. My son was generally done and back in bed within 10 minutes. As others have said, if she’s putting on weight and nappies are wet you have nothing to worry about!

DD1 was a very efficient feeder from very young and would have emptied one side within 10 mins. I used to time her feeding as I was concerned. She was gaining weight steadily and had plenty of wet/dirty nappies.
