Apologies, aware I aibu for posting here, but tried childrens health and not much traffic.
Dd behan periods at 10,bit irregular, but nothing unexpected, until Oct this year, had week long period, stopped for 2 days and has now been bleeding for almost a month, over weekend she's soaking through adult pad every couple of hours. Got appt with our gp in a week, and saw out of hours gp today, been prescribed medication but he said its normal?!? And no need to see our gp as prob no cause for it?
Surely it can't be good for her? Going to see if can get earlier emergency appt, but am I just being paranoid /overly cautious?
Giving her vitamins with iron to try to compensate.
Thank you!!!

I had this when I started periods at 9 years old; was fobbed off by Male GP on several occasions. When I was 29 I was told starting periods early and having them heavily/irregularly and them being so painful (mine were like your DD’s and I would always have two periods per month) are early indicators of a risk of endometriosis. I’m not trying to scare anybody, but if mine had been caught early enough and monitored I’d have a lot less damage than I do now.

Not saying your DD has it, but I think the fact you have a female GP booked is good as they’re less likely to shrug it off Smile

I had similar, started period at 9 or 10, periods would go on for 3 weeks, the pain was horrific. I have adenomyosis (diagnosed as an adult). The doctor at the time suggested the contraceptive pill but my mum was against it...so I put up with it. Had such a negative impact on my teenage years, gave up sports, missed out on lots of things. You're doing the right thing by insisting that a doctor take you seriously. I'm not sure if female vs male makes a difference. I've seen plenty good and not so good of both.

Thanks all, sorry I can't work out how to tag people's names!!! Sad that so many girls and women had this and just hsve to put up with it!!! It really does impact, health wise and cost wise!!! We can afford the sanitary products, but for people struggling it must put real pressure on finances!
Dd says she but nervous about school, keeping her off tomorrow in case meds upset tummy, and in case can get appt. Think she also needs some time just resting!
Going to get her to keep note on phone of dates etc, shes so good at sorting herself and doesn't ask for help, I feel bit guilty as only realised was an issue when she said sge needed more pads, and realised it had been 3 weeks! And when she needed pyjamas washing a couple of nights running.
Shes fussy, so will try to get blood test too.
To person who mentioned endometriosis, please don't worry aboit worrying me - I've googled and got myself worried!! That's one of things that came up, and as she has bavk pain I want to try to rule it out - hopefully sorting things when young will make bit easier, or at least have it in her records for any issues when older.
Really do appreciate everyone's help and support 💐

I went on the pill at 14 due to heavy periods and awful PMS and cramps. I was having 3-4 days off school a month and I was constantly worried I’d leak through my clothes. The pill was a lifesaver.

I’ve since found out I have fibroids so now that I’m off the pill the heavy periods are back. I can highly recommend getting some leakproof period pants for your daughter. I got mine from amazon, I wish they’d been around when I was young
