Mine was great (from what I can remember!)

After we were married, all of our friends and family came to our favourite pub for a drink. We were all merrily pissed, and my husband ended up playing football in the pub with a group of little Irish kids, and we were all dancing in the bar. It was great!! Not just because we were married, but also because so many people we loved had turned up to celebrate with us. It was such an amazing day and night!

Love these stories!

MintToBee · 17/11/2019 06:03

We eloped this summer to the Highlands. Got married under a gazebo next to our van with two lovely Mumsnetters I'd never met before as witnesses. We went to a local pub for lunch then went back to the van and built a fire and walked the dogs along the river.

graziemille567 · 17/11/2019 06:03

We were both pretty drunk - we waved off the last guests to leave then went to our room. After all the food, drink and sweaty dancing my dress was feeling really tight so I was insistent they my DH carefully undo all the delicate buttons on my dress but he was too drunk to do it so I started panicking and basically ripped the back of the dress to get it off! 😬 Then we ate cheese, ham and cake, got into bed, half heartedly tried to have sex but we were both knackered and drunk so gave up and went to sleep! Amazing wedding but the night itself was an anti climax.

xmasbamechange · 17/11/2019 06:28

We realised on the way home that we hadn’t eaten much because we’d been so busy so we went though the McDonald’s drive through! They were so shocked to see a bride they gave it to us for free Grin we then took it home and sat, eating McDonald’s and opening all our presents whilst drinking wine! We then fell asleep drunk, we also didn’t consummate. It was such an amazing day and a very funny way to end it!

MinnieMountain · 17/11/2019 06:46

We got straight in a taxi to a hotel next to a train station 2 hours away. Our honeymoon was by train and we had a connection to make the next day.
Both fell asleep straight away.

notyourmummy · 17/11/2019 06:49

Everyone got very drunk, my cousin's children jumped in the water fountains, my brother got very very drunk and tried to start a fight, then got sent to bed by our dad. Then my husband and I sat in bed drinking prosecco (God bless the friends who bought us a bottle and glasses as a wedding present!!)

Disfordarkchocolate · 17/11/2019 07:08

First wedding - full of stress because my now XMIL spent the whole day looking daggers at me. She sat in the garden smoking and refused to speak to my family. She'd also changed lots of the reception food to things I didn't like. Went to the hotel later for our wedding night and had steak and chips because I was so hungry. Then very very very crap sex. (Lasted about as long as the last sentence).

Second wedding - joyful, great food and fabulous hotel for the wedding night. Great sex, wonderful breakfast in bed and a happy life afterwards. The guests all had a great time, the bus we put on to take them all home was apparently very merry.

Deathraystare · 17/11/2019 07:19

One from my brother!- he ended up sleeping in the bath because his DW snored too loudly!!!

aHintOfPercy · 17/11/2019 07:50

Heavy snow all day of our wedding. Everyone managed to get to the sit-down reception through the blizzard. Received a call from the DJ to say he couldn't get up the lane to the evening venue, so DH, the best man and my brother went off to dig the venue out (village hall). I drove myself home in our old Mini Metro in full regalia to get changed for the evening. Amazingly most guests made it to the party and we had a massive snowball fight in the carpark. At the end of the evening a friend pulled everyone's cars off the carpark with his Landie. We had to cancel our night away in a posh hotel so went home exhausted and watched the boxing on TV while eating left over buffet food and surrounded by gifts including 3, yes 3, rotary clothes lines (it was 1986 wedding lists were pretty basic in those days). Too knackered for sex that night and had hot chocolate instead.

newdeer · 17/11/2019 07:53

We had a ceilidh and danced the night away with all our friends and family. Loads of old people and kids all dancing together. (I love having children at weddings.) Then when we got back I fell into bed and the jasmine the hairdresser had sewn into my hair crushed on the pillow so I associate the smell of jasmine flowers with my wedding night.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 17/11/2019 08:02

We danced until the end with in laws and our group of friends since uni (I was dancing on a broken foot) went to our suite had sex discussed that my foot didn’t look normal at all.
The next morning I was worried it would feel like an anti climax but in reality I was desperate to get home so we went home my parents kept the dc for a few hours we opened a bottle of wine and opened our cards and gifts and had a relaxing evening.

JoyceDivision · 17/11/2019 08:03

I love these threads!

Finished the evening party, DH said he wanted us to travel home in style.... But hadn't arranged anything so we rang a taxi, then shouted for some friends who lived nearby to share it with us, when we got home we persuaded them to come in with us, they were really polite saying "But it',s your wedding night!" We all sat drinking champagne for a couple if hours, I was very merry, friend said Dh looked stunned repeating "There's a bride in my house"

Went to bed fully dressed as DH couldn't unpick fiddly buttons, I had taken half the hairgrips out but woke up with half of them still in and the backcombed hairstyle of doom in the morning!

Managed to get up and get over to church for morning mass where we had been married the day before and got a round of applause at church.

OneToThree · 17/11/2019 08:07

Pissed
Hair pins out
Dress off
Fuck
Sleep
That’s all I can remember Grin

Piled with drinks all night and was merry. My DH was with all his mates outside who I joined for a bit and for some reason we ended up having a push up contest (which I proudly won).

In the barn part my family were equally merry and playing all sorts of music to dance to. Poor DH came in and was promptly forced onto a chair as my mum opted to play Christina Aguilera's Dirrrty and put out some (PG) stripperesque dance moves. I also gave him somewhat of a lap dance in full bridal regalia. He was so confused.

Ended the night in our suite having a laugh and opening our cards/presents, taking the millions of hair grips on my hair and collapsing into bed. DH insisted we consummate the marriage (wasn't great, we were both knackered) before sleeping.

Got up late to have breakfast and saw everyone else there already, so took the last two free seats and joined in the chatter!

Absolutely loved our day. Wouldn't do it again though as it was basically an expensive party!

Footymum81 · 17/11/2019 08:27

Our wedding was on the day of the World Cup quarter-final, which was kind of fitting as we met through football and our reception was at our local club. We had the game on during the meal and England won which got things off to a good start. We had a bouncy castle, sweet cart and live band which made the evening do go great. Then we stopped off at our hotel to find chocolates and a bottle of champagne waiting for us. Quick change and we headed to one of our favourite pubs to carry on the party, finally crashing at around 4am.
For me though, the highlight was having my 98 year old grandmother there for the ceremony and meal. She passed away 4 months later so I’m so glad she was able to share that day with me.

joystir59 · 17/11/2019 08:37

Best day and night if my life. We had a register office wedding with 46 family and friends, then to the nearby pub for food and Prosecco. We left everyone partying and took the train to Bournemouth from Waterloo, still in our wedding regalia, got to our hotel room where there were flowers champagne and chocolates, which we drank and then made love, and ate the chocs. Neither of us slept for two nights after the wedding, we had our wedding music running on a loop in our heads and kept reliving every moment. The day after the wedding we walked around feeling newborn and every simple little thing we did felt special. It was the Queen's diamond jubilee so we watched it in bed, we were snuggled cosy whereas it was raining in London. Oh it was lovely.

Lovely to hear about wedding days but this is quite special, the feeling that being married has on you.

Ledkr · 17/11/2019 08:56

My new husband got so pissed he could hardly stand so me an dmy mates left the reception when it ended and went to town clubbing much to my mums horror.
He used to spoil all social events with his drinking btw.
We are now divorced Grin

OohEekAah · 17/11/2019 08:58

DH and I were the last men standing at our Wedding, we had hired a Hall for a few days and done everything ourselves for the reception. Once everyone had left we set up the Karaoke Machine and spent the next few hours drinking, singing and dancing together - complete with smoke machine Grin We eventually stumbled back to our Hotel at 4am!

Grannybags · 17/11/2019 09:07

1st wedding - H so drunk he passed out as soon as we got to the room. I had to get myself out of my dress and complicated undergarments plus unpin my (waist length) hair - counted nite than 60 pins. Was too het up to sleep so spend the whole night up - had a bath, watched some tv etc. Parents had paid for champagne breakfast which H couldn’t eat as too hungover.
We divorced before we had a chance to use some of the wedding presents.

2nd Wedding - only had afternoon reception with a few friends and family. Went to our favourite hotel and the receptionist convinced me to stay in my wedding dress for dinner. Everyone made a huge fuss of us and we both had a reasonable amount to drink. Went back to the room and stayed up all night but for a totally different reason!

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 17/11/2019 09:13

We were both sober (DH doesn't drink and I wanted to remember it all) so once we'd waved off our guests we packed up our teeny tiny little car and drove home. DH unlaced my dress and underthings and we both went and showered cos we were minging and then we shagged like crazy.

ShadyFP · 17/11/2019 09:19

We had our evening do at the same venue as the rest of the day. Everyone had a good time, then we went back to the room and found the venue had left us a bottle of champagne. We’d already drank a lot (I don’t remember feeling drunk but I must have been!) but we opened it anyway. We took some funny photos in the fancy room (me in my dress in the massive bath, for example), and then ran a bath and got in together with our champagne. Sex was off the cards as unfortunately it was a heavy period day, but in a way it was a relief to not have to think about reserving the energy. We were both so tired!
