Lost and found credit card question.

Posting here for traffic:
DH lost his credit card today.
He retraced his movements and thankfully, it had been found and that honest person handed it in to the petrol kiosk attendant.
We are currently having a heated debate as to whether or not he needs to report it to the CC company.
I say he should as the card details could have been copied and therefore it could be used in future for some random on line purchase.
He says, no need to report as they don't have the PIN number.
He's a bit of a dinosaur and doesn't appreciate that you don't need a PIN to shop on line.
WWYD?
Thanks.

The answer is probably buried in some complex small print document that the card issuer provided but easiest thing is to check on their website.
Big and obvious risk that if he doesn’t report and there is later a fraud he will not be compensated and will be out of pocket.

I wouldn't, but I would closely monitor my account over the next few days. Helps that I have online banking and apps to do that.
I don't think a crook would skim or copy the card then hand it in. It's needless effort for the crook and they're getting their own face on the CCTV, own fingerprints all over the card. Surely all but the dumbest crooks would just stash the card or throw it away?

@dementedpixie: Approximately a couple of hours missing. He has the card back now so no random rogue can be running around contactless shopping with it.
He's a stubborn mule though and doesn't appreciate that not everyone uses a CC like he does.
The risk of later fraud is a good point @UnrelentingFruitScoffer and I suspect mentioning lack of compensation to him will be the boot up the bum he needs to phone them and report.
Thanks all.
