just "baby" multifocals they told me. I'm 43. Not major problems but just struggling a bit with smaller print and I read a lot.

OH MY GOD. DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR.

Multifocals are the way. If you're struggling just a teeny bit get some and all of a sudden you don't have to have a teeny struggle a dozen times a day.

No blurb about specs is as funny as Billy Connolly discussing prescription windscreens!!

Wasn't that Jasper Carrott?

I'm 42 and picking my varifocals up tomorrow. I have to wear them all the time. All the time.

Fortyfuckingtwo.

Hated mine and took them back for a refund.

I was told i rely too much on peripheral vision and don't move my head enough.

MereDintofPandiculation · 15/11/2019 20:55

How long before they feel ok? My last pair were horrible for almost 2 weeks! Mine were OK within two minutes.

DH has glasses for reading, glasses for driving, glasses for computer ... I felt so sorry for him having to have all these pairs of glasses around so introduced him to varifocals.

Now he has varifocals optimised for computer, and varifocals optimised for driving ... I think he just likes having lots of pairs of glasses.

I got mine, I hate them. I’ve gone back to my old glasses. They give me a lot of headaches.

cassgate · 15/11/2019 21:28

I picked up my varifocals last week and can’t wear them. I can’t stand the constant head movement. The optician assured me that I would get used to them and needed to give them at least 2 weeks constant use but after just 3 days I had a constant headache and have now developed neck problems which I am convinced are from the unnatural head movement. I am taking them back at the weekend.

I love my varifocals. I resisted them for ages, but now I've got them I think they are amazing. I was lucky, I was comfortable with them immediately. I don't seem to move my head much to focus, if I do I'm unaware of it. I still take them off to look at things in microscopic detail, like a couple of others have mentioned I've got perfect vision at about six inches from my face.

Elieza · 15/11/2019 21:40

If you order but can’t get the hang of them, can you get your money back even just for the lenses if you keep the frames and get other regular lenses instead? I’d like them but it’s the price that’s putting me off trying.

Fuzzywig · 15/11/2019 21:46

Cassgate I was advised you point the tip of your nose to whatever you look at! Crazy!

Elieza I got mine from Specsavers they advised you can swap to single vision glasses if you don’t have a good result with them. I guess it depends on the opticians you would have to ask.

SeaOtterFluff · 15/11/2019 21:58

I'm another with fantastic near vision! I'm very short sighted and have been since I was about 8. I switched to varifocals this year at 42 after my near vision deteriorated with glasses on. It's a life changer - after a 2 week settling in period where I nearly gave up - and it's reduced my headaches significantly. I switch back to single vision at the cinema but that's it.
