Just the title really.

They'd have guaranteed school places for when they return.

Just looking for opinions and pros/cons while my husband and I consider.

It could be amazing, I agree that it's the right time to go for your eldest, don't leave it any longer.

You clearly have the educational part figured out, so go for it!

Bluerussian · 15/11/2019 19:46

It's a wonderful idea! Where do you plan to go?

beingchampion · 15/11/2019 19:46

Go.

Just bloody go, as soon as you can.

It'll be amazing.

stucknoue · 15/11/2019 19:47

If you are up for home schooling then go for it but the 12 year old could get behind if they don't study the essentials (but homeschool is so flexible time wise!)

sniffingthewax · 15/11/2019 19:47

1 million per cent yes

This. But please vlog your travels so that we can enjoy it too Grin

churchandstate · 15/11/2019 19:49

Bit risky for the 12 year old but if there’s a good work ethic there I would still do it.

HeyNotInMyName · 15/11/2019 19:49

Go for it.
You are just at the limit after which this coud be an issue.
Y8 is ok.
Y9 isn’t as they are always starting the GCSE program then.

They’ll learn much more from a trip like this than from any time they spend in a classroom

MonsterBingo · 15/11/2019 19:49

We did this with three kids at primary school age. Best year of our life. Have never regretted it. It will be the time that I’ll remember on my death bed. Do it if you can.

Letthemysterybe · 15/11/2019 19:51

Absolutely yes! I think few people could be better positioned for it than you. You have school places secured for
Their return and you clearly can afford it, so yes go ahead.

theWarOnPeace · 15/11/2019 19:52

Absolutely!!

SinglePringle · 15/11/2019 19:55

I know someone who did this on a yacht. He was a Head Teacher (and also a Yacht Master!) so was able to home school. They had an amazing experience.

Do it!

AdriannaP · 15/11/2019 19:59

Do it! Amazing experience for them!

livingthegoodlife · 15/11/2019 20:02

Go for it. I think you've covered all the issues that I might have had.

I'm just jealous that I can't do the same.

BeverlyGoldbergsHairAndJumpers · 15/11/2019 20:02

Do it. This would be my dream!

JusticeForSandra · 15/11/2019 20:03

If you have the finance and you've already sorted the schooling, you'd be crazy not to!

The only hard part will be coming back, but if they have a good group of friends and you manage the transition well, why wouldn't you go!

Andsoitisjust99 · 15/11/2019 20:04

I think you would really regret not doing it since you have such a great opportunity! Do it! Children and only children once. Enjoy your life and help them see that life is for living.

Jellybeansincognito · 15/11/2019 20:05

Yes I would do it in a heartbeat.

floraloctopus · 15/11/2019 20:05

I'd not take them out for a year but would travel for 3 months over the summer with the extra long holidays that they get.
We travel for 6 weeks each summer and it's a great experience for the DCs.

LagunaBubbles · 15/11/2019 20:06

I'm jealous that you can afford to do this!

Bourbonbiccy · 15/11/2019 20:06

You are Absolutely not being unreasonable, it's a brilliant opportunity for all of you.

Do it, it will be brilliant.

HairyFloppins · 15/11/2019 20:07

Do it, you only live once. I would love to do this.

MillicentMartha · 15/11/2019 20:07

I’d say you have it covered. Do it!

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 15/11/2019 20:15

A local family we know did this, their kids went to private school when they returned which made it much easier for them. The kids all slotted back into their education when they returned, admittedly they went to private school which I think was more flexible about it and helped them catch up. They made good preparations before leaving. At the time I would have loved to do the same, for the sake of my youngest who wasn't having a very good time in primary.

Witchend · 15/11/2019 20:16

Would the children actually enjoy it?
Mine would love the idea in theory, but ds would be wanting to come home after about a week, and I suspect of my other two one of them would tire of not being in one place after a month or so and the other might last 6 months but no more.

Also work would end up being a battleground for two of them and then the third would need convincing she'd done enough.

PotatoesPastaAndBread · 15/11/2019 20:17
