We have Everything. The house is bouncing with lego, imaginex, scooters, bikes.

Can anyone help me with an idea that doesn't make me cringe? Live rurally so expeeience opportunities are limited.

And their father, my stbxh, does shit gifts, so I want to get something nice so they know how good it feels to get a lovely present.

What about a marble run, or domino rally? My son loved those at that age.

OhioOhioOhio · 15/11/2019 17:45

Oh domino's. I forgot about them. I saw this domino dump truck online a while back. I'll go investigate. Any other ideas please?

Scalextric? It's hard without some idea what he's into. Are you close enough to somewhere you could get tickets to a sporting event or show? Does he have a tablet? Something remote controlled.

OhioOhioOhio · 15/11/2019 17:51

This is really helpful.

We don't do tablets. Loong story.

Any magazine recommendations?

Fire for kids- brilliant educational games and kid proof.

Go- Kart/ Flicker/ Rip Razor - all favourites of my 7 year old (older brothers so has them all!).

Hotwheels.

A great board game- my boys love their board games. Flags of the World is excellent as is Don't Say It.

bridgetreilly · 15/11/2019 17:54

My nephew is getting a magnetic dartboard for his 7th birthday.

Anorak would be a good magazine to subscribe to for him.

blackteaplease · 15/11/2019 17:54

We got ds a fish tank for his 7th birthday.

autumnnightsaredrawingin · 15/11/2019 17:56

Does he support a football team? We got my just turned 7 year old a lot of football themed stuff!

NormaSnickers · 15/11/2019 17:56

My 7yr old DS had a subscription to The Phoenix for his birthday, he really enjoys it and looks forward to it arriving each week. It’s £9.99 per month but I think it’s good value because DS reads each issue several times. They do a trial of 4 issues for £1 so you could maybe order that to see if it’s something your DS might like?
Present wise I’ve just bought my nephew a Boomtrix set, it looks great and my DS was disappointed that it wasn’t for him!

happytoday73 · 15/11/2019 18:00

My son got a money safe for something like £12from Smyths toys superstore and loves it more than anything else. Oh and an equally inexpensive spy set.
Labrynth board game

I find whiteboards with pens always go down well. As well as a large board, we have two A4 sized ones in our house so when there’s a friend over they can write messages to each other from either side of the room.

Busy77 · 15/11/2019 18:03

Whizz pop bang science type magazine is great

ButterflyOfFreedom · 15/11/2019 18:04

Hexx Bugs

Remote control car

Telescope / Binoculars / Microscope

Ukelele / Guitar

Pogo Stick

Games- recommend Rush Hour & Quadrillion

Camera

Bickles · 15/11/2019 18:24

Is he into anything? DS is very into Harry Potter, Star Wars and Minecraft so all his presents are to do with that.
If not encourage something- first Harry Potter book to read together?

ElsasSalamander · 15/11/2019 18:28

At that age my DS was very much into Pokemon
Spy gear
Nerf guns
Lego
And was starting to get into Minecraft & Harry Potter

Snoopdogsbitch · 16/11/2019 14:01

Should have said Nerf gun- I have single handedly contributed masses to their profits as we have so many!

kierenthecommunity · 16/11/2019 14:13

Oh domino's. I forgot about them. I saw this domino dump truck online a while back

We had a train version of that kind of toy. You will regret it. It’s supposed to deposit the dominoes as it goes along but the smallest dent in the floor and the next thing you know they’ve all been knocked over before it’s finished it’s journey. Noisy as fuck too.

My seven year old likes his marble one, Hot Wheels and board games. We’re getting him Headbandz for Xmas as he played it at a friends and liked it.

I also got him a vintage Bop It for Xmas and some Nerfs

He wants an Alexa for his main present

Thingsthatgo · 16/11/2019 14:23

My ds loves a toy called gravitrax. It’s a marble run, but way cooler than the regular ones.

Welshwabbit · 16/11/2019 14:23

My seven year old loves Gravitrax. TBH I think it's pretty cool too.

Welshwabbit · 16/11/2019 14:24

Also meant to say he loves the board game Carcassonne and his grandparents have just started a subscription to the National Geographic Kids magazine.

Lactarius · 16/11/2019 15:01

You say you're rural so I would go for a decent pen knife and/or air gun. Obviously both to be used under supervision until the boy is competent.
