Adult acne and autumn

Honeybee85 · 15/11/2019 13:31

My skin is combination\ greasy normally but apart from an occasional pimple, it’s most of the time ‘under control’.

However, I started noticing that whenever the season is changing from summer to autumn (that started to happen here about 3 weeks ago) my skin becomes more greasy then unsual, pimples all over, looking blotchy etc. This happens every year and only when it becomes autumn so not during other changes of season.
Does anyone have the same problem?

By the way, my solution is to invest more in anti acne products, skip night moisturizer and trying to avoid sugar more then I usually do.

@Honeybee85, inositol is quite a specific thing for acne. B6 and B12 can really worsen acne for some people, but if you found it was working for you, then great.

Acne is a process of elimination condition. Some people get it because they eat dairy, some get it because they have PCOS, others stress. Once you figure that part out, it’s fairly easy to solve.

I had acne for years anf I find that acne 'products' make it worse, especially in autumn when the air is so drying and the heating comes on. 100% pure Jojoba oil is amazing. Totally non comodegenic and beautifully softening . It's massively helped my acne and is not expensive.

@attillathenun thank you! I will go have a look at it!

@dinosaurusrun I heard that too. I always use the same shampoo and make sure to wash my face with a facewash in the shower after I rinsed shampoo / conditioner from my hair.

@stopgap I think mine is hormonal...It gets away when I am on heavy birth control pills but I didn’t want to put so much hormones in my body anymore on a daily basis!

@shivermetimbers77
That sounds promising! I will definitely have a look at it, a previous poster mentioned rosehip oil as well and since I love natural products, definitely want to give it a try!

Hi pp of this thread! Wanted to give you an update as my experience might be helpful to some of you.

@stopgap mentioned using vitamin B as a possible solution for the acne so I gave it a try.
Have been taking a vitamin B supplement on a daily base for a few weeks now and my skin looks already much better! Unfortunately it didn’t make my enlarged pores shrink but it definitely made most of the pimples disappear! Thanks again for this advice!

I have also used the Muji gel and it’s a lovely product, moisturizing but not greasy so that one is recommended as well.

Thanks for the update! Which supplement did you use? What's it called?

Honeybee85 · 08/12/2019 15:35

Hi SugarThreat

I am not sure as I am already in bed (I live in Asia so time difference). I’ll check tomorrow morning.
It’s a local brand and it’s a supplement that contains all different kinds of vitamin B (very generic).

Thanks - I'll give anything a try 😁

I tried everything to get rid of acne I had it constantly from a teenager till I was 36(last year). I had been on antibiotics from the doctors for a few years but they stopped working. Got a referral to a dermatologist and took isotretinoin for six months. I now have clear skin and am so happy. For years I tried diet /skincare made no difference. I would ask to be referred to a dermatologist. Even if you dont want to take isotretinoin (can’t take during pregnancy or breastfeeding) they will be able to prescribe other things such as lotions you can’t buy.

I suffered with acne in my early twenties. Moved to HK and a doc there told me to give up dairy (mainly milk). I did and my skin improved massively. Not sure if that would work for anyone else but it did for me.
I recently saw a product advertised called Botanycl - there are lots of before/after photos. I made a note of the name as it looked impressive and I thought it might come in handy should my two DD’s start to suffer with acne. Haven’t used it so can’t comment, but online reviews were pretty complimentary.

you need lush products as they are all natural

it is dear but lasts a long time

im 39 soon and had severe ace from 12 -36, ive got severe PCOS(dont get/never had periods either)the lumps under the skin type,my face was also extremely dry and bright red/i never wore make up so i couldn't cover it up

ive been on all types of medication, numerous potions off the doctor and bought everything available over the counter but nothing worked

i discovered lush products and with in weeks it cleared up and i havent had a problem since

i use their facial soap, solid moisturizer bars, masks and salt scrub

i now make my own lotion bars, tried soap buts it a complicated process

Claireshh · 08/12/2019 22:59

Differin gel is honestly amazing. I have been using it a good few years and my skin was really great. I ran out five weeks ago and my skin has gone to shit. I’ve got some coming in the post this week. I will get a break out /flakiness two weeks into restarting it but that will go soon enough.

Collision · 08/12/2019 23:12

My skin is currently shit.

🤦🏻‍♀️

I’m going to read this properly tomorrow.

stopgap · 08/12/2019 23:24

@Honeybee85, glad the B Vitamins are helping out. I like the Ordinary’s AHA peel for helping with evening tone.

QueenoftheBiscuitTin · 08/12/2019 23:32

Acnecide gel from boots was the only thing that got rid of my spots. I wish I'd known about it when I first started getting them. I still have to put it on a few nights a week as they start coming back otherwise.

gh621 · 08/12/2019 23:41

I have adult acne too, I get it on my face, scalp, chest and back.
I was on dianette for years as I needed a contraceptive too but last year I had a freak on about how long I’d been using it and stopped completely. My skin is now the worst it’s ever been, I’ve changed my diet, cut out certain food groups at different times, tried so many different creams and shampoo’s but still suffering.
Where do you get the Differin gel from? Haven’t tried that and a quick google only comes up with amazon. My father is in his 60s and still take medication for acne so I guess I’m just taking after him.
Do you have to pay to see a dermatologist? I guess that’s my next step

Honeybee85 · 09/12/2019 02:00

@stopgap

I have ordered the Nianciamide + zink from the Ordinairy about 2 weeks ago, now eagerly waiting for it to arrive!

Thanks everyone for the suggestion to visit a dermatologist. I have visited a few in the past and did 2 rounds of roaccutane. That didn’t do much, only Diane / Yasmin Pill has really worked but I don’t want to put so much hormones in my body.

My skin has improved with age and what also helped is to stop wearing loads of foundation and powder! It was hard in the beginning to just cover bad spots up with concealer as I felt so insecure but my skin improved. I combat the shine with blotting papers (they’re brilliant!). My skin looks quite OK most of the times but for some reason starts to act out during the change from summer to autumn.

Sorry to say what worked for me was to stop drinking milk. I still have bits of dairy but not much.
Face oils I would only use once a week
Once or twice a week light glycolic serum

Honeybee85 · 09/12/2019 09:49

Actually I hate milk Grin. I eat maybe one very small portion of Danone yoghurt every day.
There’s not much quality cheese available here so I hardly eat it as well and soy milk is used here widely over cow milk.

The Ordinairy Niaciamide + Zink 1% serum arrived nearly a week ago, so I thought I’d post an update for those who are also struggling.

You can use it morning and evening, which I have done, under my sunscreen / nightcream.
It’s a lovely watery product that goes on easily and doesn’t sting in my experience.

It definitely improved my skin.
During the day it got less oily and the amount of pimples, particulary around my nose area, has reduced. I also noticed that my skin looks more radiant and plump.

Definitely recommended.

Thank you for this thread. I am also an adult acne sufferer! I never ever had it as a teenager, so I have been very shocked by developing it in my mid 20's. I've had it about 2 years now. Sometimes it clears up for a bit. But it always comes back. Started once I came off hormonal contraceptives. (But never had it as a teenager before contraception).

I've been left with a lot of scarring on my face now. It makes me feel so down. I can't believe my face is scarred! Sad

I thinkkk mine flares up from drinking milk. I've tried switching to lactose free, and skim milk, but it doesn't make a difference! If anything, the skim made it worse?!! Confused

It sucks because i love milk!! But not as much as I hate a scarred face! So the milk has to go permanently!

I am taking notes of a few of the products suggested here and am going to try them! Definitely going to incorporate zinc somehow!

Anyone know of any ways to get rid of or help with scarring / blemishes/ red marks / what seems like large craters???

Would really appreciate any advice on scarring / redness ! SadSad

noshoesnoshirt · 15/12/2019 05:43

Oh I also have combination skin- but with a dry t-zone.

My acne is mostly around my chin, on my upper lip area and in between my eyebrows.

Honeybee85 · 15/12/2019 08:49

The sister of a good friend suffers from the same as you @noshoesnoshirt.

I heard she’s undergoing some sort of laser treatment now and that it’s working.
