I have adware or malware on my MacBook how to get rid? Do other people end up feeling thick when it comes to computers?

Totally befuddled by what is the actual best programme I can get to clean up my fucking MacBook which is infested with site diversions that are trying to make me put in credit card details. I gather that a lot of antivirus software just ends up taking up loads of space/ energy and make the whole thing worse and really slow?

Feeling utterly harassed by tech. My reasonably high-spec HP laptop also automatically updated itself and now cannot connect to wifi because the wifi option has plain disappeared. Neither me or my wife can figure out how to fix it, we couldn't connect it using a cable either. So I now have two fairly expensive machines that are beyond frustrating.

Does anyone else get really frustrated and feel stupid with all this bullshit? How do you manage?

Download malware bytes and just use the free scan. This is what they recommend at the Apple store.

I can only offer experience on the Mac.
Have you (a) cleared all history on the Mac and (b) in Safari Preferences removed all cookies. Often what looks like malware will go once you strip the two out (I suggest you do that weekly anyway).

Otherwise yes, use Malwarebytes and make sure you have antivirus and anti malware software loaded, the days when Macs did not need these are gone I'm afraid.

I use clamxav for Mac. Its a free scan. Always found it really good.

When you search for WiFi networks in your area, do networks belonging to your neighbours appear? Or none at all? If you don't have close neighbours you could try in a coffee shop. Basically to confirm whether it's your home network that is the issue, or WiFi is disabled on the laptop. Then go from there.

Also, so if this is obvious, but don't click on any email attachments that you weren't expecting. Don't download things from websites.

Bitdefender is a good virus protection software for Apple. You pay for it annually but it’s not very expensive. It will get rid of the malware you’ve acquired and does constant scans in the background of your activity so you are always safe when browsing.
