AIBU to be baffled about this gel nail issue? Any nail technicians (or chiropodists!) about?

I’ve gone to a salon near me a couple of times for a gel pedicure.
Each time on the second layer of gel colour the same big toe has got what looks like a scuff or a ripple in it and lifts. So they have to do it again, and even then it doesn’t go on smoothly. All my other nails are fine.
This time both big toes did it!
The lamp they use is quite small (not much depth to get your foot in) and on the floor in front of me so I lift my foot down from the stool it’s on and into the lamp. I thought I must be scuffing it a little accidentally each time but the weird thing is the pattern is exactly the same on both toes!

It’s now making me wonder if I have really weird feet or something? The technician didn’t think it’s the lamp or scuffing as she thinks I’d know if I was scuffing it.

Not a huge issue but I’m just baffled by it, never have a problem with my fingernails when I have them done and I’ve had pedicures in the past that are fine.

I am pregnant at the moment so wondered if the bump getting in the way was making the scuffing happen?! But to get exactly the same pattern.... the salon is bewildered!

I'm a nail tech - can you post a picture? It'll be a lot easier to see what's going on.

It’s been taken off now because they ran out of time to redo the two nails, I didn’t think to take a picture!
It looked scuffed to me, a couple of horizontal intentions in the same place on the nails and then kind of lifting above that as though the scuff had stopped it sealing if that makes any sense?

I wondered if it could be some kind of nail condition I’m unaware of!

Also a nail tech - when you say ripple that makes me think perhaps the second coat is being put on too thick? Alternatively is it the same colour polish each time, and does tech shake the bottle before application to distribute the pigment properly before applying? Some colours (I use shellac) weirdly ripple really easily when setting if even slightly too thick (white cream puff is a classic example of this!). Might need 3 thin coats instead of 2 thicker ones.

It's either too thick or you have an actual ripple in your toenail. If it doesn't happen when they reapply I'd say it's due to the application rather than your toenail. Could you try somewhere else just to see if it happens elsewhere?
