Why do kids hate wearing coats?

I love voats and csnnot get enough of them...stylish, cozy , cool anf practical. Bit kids seem to hate them.
I had to force 11 year old dd to take her coat in on this cold, frosty morning. Apparently its because school wont let them wear them indoors so she has to carey it around. Stupid rule but its hardly difficult to carry a jacket. The school and dd are being unreasonable aren't they?

DS1 is 14 and rarely wears coats. I buy him a lovely new one every so often to just test the water and he looks at me, looks at the coat then trundles off to school in his wooden blazer (which is the work of the devil himself because it stinks of sweat every week and has to be hand washed and because it also cost £70 and DS1 grows like a weed).

When I was a teenager I refused to wear a coat. Because in my opinion it just didn't look "cool". Now that I'm older I wrap up like I'm about to go on an expedition to the Arctic. And I'm the one laughing at my teenage neice who refuses to wear a coat even when it's freezing cold and raining. It's the circle of life Grin

I think the lack of lockers in schools is ridiculous - cycle helmets, sports gear and coats all need lockers. But if mine take all that in they have to carry them around.

I avoid wearing coats as much as possible.

Even in the snow, if it's mild then I'll bein a hoody, hat, scarf and earmuffs. Grin

I refused to wear my coat throughout secondary school. Drove my mum mental. In fairness it was a very ugly school uniform coat
Now my two DD's won't wear theirs. Even though they chose them from bloody pretty little thing or some such. Neither will they wear tights under their ludicrously short skirts (which they roll up on the way to school). They would rather have legs blue with cold. Dd 1 won't wear her blazer and is well on the way to an after school detention for it. She won't listen to reason.
I have no idea why they do it!

They do wear coats at my dds' school and do have lockers. They have compulsory quite thick jumpers in Spring and Autumn terms which I'm not keen on if it's still hot when they go back in Sept, but am glad of at this time of year.

The lockers in school thing is not as simple as it looks. They take up huge amounts of room, and there are always circulation problems at the beginning and the end of the day. Ds had one and he ended up not using it because it quite often meant missing his bus.

Our school has over 900 pupils so there wouldn't be space for 900 lockers. Also going to and from them takes time. Mine dont use a locker and dont wear coats

I suppose it's childhood or teen rebellion against a lifetime of hearing "put your coat on", by parents and teachers; and when the adults say "oh well, natural consequences", they like to call the adults' bluff. Wink Maybe also they think it saves time, if the reason they're late out of school or home because everyone has to put on coats. Children have so little control over their lives, some of them like to assert it in any small way they can.

I certainly did. I used to refuse to wear socks, for the same reason, in spite of the warnings of terrible things that would happen, including my shoes walking away without me. Shock
