To use Anbesol?

Anbesol seems to have been one of the most popular and effective things to use for teething for several years. It’s recommended over and over again on MN.

Recently it seems like the sale of it in the U.K. has been restricted a bit and the FDA in the USA don’t recommend it for teething. It seems like some people were over using it and that lead to detrimental effects.

Would you continue to use it (obviously only using a sensible amount)?

The MHRA’s investigation was prompted by a warning issued by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) earlier this year, which found that using lidocaine solution as a pain reliever for babies could cause seizures and even death.
In fact, they found only 447 reports of lidocaine poisoning to children had been made over a three-year period to the UK National Poisons Information Service - of which 437 caused 'minor' or 'no' harm. The remaining ten were 'unknown'.

Those that used it previously, how often did you apply it?

Stressedout10 · 12/11/2019 22:04

2-3 times a day but with a finger never a cotton bud or on a dummy

Thingsthatgo · 12/11/2019 22:08

I was told that I shouldn’t even use it while pregnant.

Stressedout10 · 12/11/2019 22:14

@thingsthatgo
Can I ask why and by whom as lidocaine is considered safe in pregnancy and used by dermatologists and dentists on me during both my pregnancys

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 12/11/2019 22:44
