TO WANT TO KILL THE SCUM!!

Who has stolen my husbands wallet this evening! Angry

Over £150 in cash gone, payments made via contactless on both cards before he could cancel them, and numerous other important cards such as his licence and sentimental bits and pieces probably dumped in a bush somewhere. Sad

Fortunately there is CCTV of him taking the wallet although I'm doubtful it will come to much even if they can identify the arsehole.

I know I'm not unreasonable but I honestly have never felt rage like it and I could just do with a sympathetic ear to listen to me vent. I just want to find them and do unspeakable things to them and I'm not a violent person in the slightest. Angry

If he had a hunt round the store does that mean he dropped it, or was he robbed?
Both cases it's wrong for someone to steal whats yours, but If he dropped it the 'scum' is merely opportunist scum and you husband needs yo be more careful with his stuff

ShatnersWig · 13/11/2019 09:26

Where did he steal it from? If you've got CCTV of him doing it, where was your husband's wallet at the time?

SmileCheese · 13/11/2019 09:32

Thank you so much for all the kind comments, I'm sorry to see so many of you have found yourself in similar situations and I hope Karma got each and every slime ball who took something from you.

I'm feeling calmer and less murderous after getting some sleep although I did curse and wish terrible things on him before going to bed which was quite therapeutic. I'm just hoping a lovely human, possibly a mumsnetter, will stumble across it this morning now its light and restore my faith in humanity by sending it back to us.

If he had a hunt round the store does that mean he dropped it, or was he robbed

He had a look around to see if it had been dumped after they had taken the cards and money. The wallet was taken without his knowledge as he left a shop.

So someone managed to get their hand to his inside coat pocket without him noticing? Sounds like a "professional" then.

TheMidasTouch · 13/11/2019 09:55

You ask whether YABU to want to kill the scum. The answer is unequivocally yes. While it was really horrible if someone to steal the wallet and use the contactless card and theft is appalling, it isn't reasonable to want to kill the thief for it.

"I know I'm not unreasonable"

Did you mean you know you are unreasonable?

"but I honestly have never felt rage like it"
I can understand this. When our first car was stolen I felt so angry, not really because the car was taken, but it was over the lack of control I felt. It really felt like an utter violation. I felt the same when both my dad and then my mum were both burgled. My sister has been burgled about 5 times at 2 different properties.

I'm so sorry this has happened to your husband and really hope the perpetrator can be identified and caught as a result of the CCTV.

Jellybeansincognito · 13/11/2019 09:57

It’s horrible, but no one was hurt and money is replaceable.
It could have been worse.

Or perhaps I’m just looking at the bigger picture due to my personal circumstances right now...

SmileCheese · 13/11/2019 10:05

Midas it is surely clear that last night I was posting whilst still in the red mist of rage. Obviously I don't want to actually kill someone for taking the wallet but its hard to think clearly when you've just found out someone has taken so much money off you and there's nothing you can do to make it better. Especially when you know that even if they are caught the likelihood is they wont be deterred from doing it again.

So someone managed to get their hand to his inside coat pocket without him noticing? Sounds like a "professional" then.

Yep straight out of his pocket as he was walking out of the store. Sad

I was on the tube recently where a man had his wallet in a zip less compartment on his rucksack. He was wearing the rucksack and his wallet was staring me in the face. I was about to tell him that he is risking pickpocketing but thought surely he would know and I am teaching grandma to suck eggs.

mothertruck3r · 13/11/2019 10:10

I don't understand why contactless cards were brought in when chip and pin would stop people using cards without knowing the pin? Contactless cards seem to benefit the banks more than their customers.

ShatnersWig · 13/11/2019 10:29

Antigon It's like phones and wallets in bum pockets. Madness.

Antigon · 13/11/2019 11:55

@ShatnersWig it seems like some people think it will never happen to them and prefer to learn the hard way!

I think contactless is great, even with its risks. My elderly mum never used chip and pin but will use contactless - but only in the supermarket!

Please post details of the missing items on local Facebook pages. People often post about finding such things (after they have been discarded by the thief) and you might just strike lucky.

I know how you feel. I am stuck in Romania as was robbed on a train here while visiting a month ago. Every item of luggage taken including prescription glasses, travel documents, sentimental items, brand new camera with hundreds of photos... Still stuck here a month later and unable to come home to UK as still waiting for UK visas and immigration to issue a temporary travel document, which they said would take 15 working days (3 weeks), but is now 19 working days and still waiting a decision. And I thought I was lucky because it happened within 5 days of 1 of the 2 days a month that you can apply as that's the only time that the third party private company who it is outsourced to is open (one day per fortnight!).
Have paid for and been unable to take 2 flights, the original one and one booked for 21 working days after applying, which I assumed would be enough time given they said 15 working days... Have to pay £5.40 just to send an email to UK Visas and immigration or £1.37 a minute plus international call charges to phone them just to get the response that the application is still waiting a decision (which I already knew) and no information on possible timeframe. Will take months to sort out everything when I do get back. Christmas plans (to go away) all now cancelled as replacement travel documents will take up to 6 months unless you pay about 10 times the price for priority service.

Needless to say my thoughts towards those who robbed me have not been particularly nice, although in reality I wouldn't hurt anyone. Chance of them getting caught is pretty much zero... Only positive thing is that with app based Banks like Starling, you can instantly freeze your card to block any attempts to use it.

Antigon · 13/11/2019 15:15

@Buttermilkwaffles you poor thing! Shock

Please tell you have travel insurance?!!

iknowimallmine · 13/11/2019 21:41

People who steal from others really need to be beaten to death. Some scum took my mums purse from her car when she just nipped in for 5 mins to get something and took all the money. We needed that money to get groceries and had to take a loan. Also include in those the people who tricked my dad into starting a business with them and ran away with the money. Thieves are the lowest bottom of the scums. I pray they all die a slow painful death and have a miserable life.
