To worry about this

4 or so days now I notice when I am relaxed and resting an annoying, niggly discomfort at the tip of my right shoulder.

Don't recall doing anything that could have caused an injury, it doesn't cause me discomfort any other time - only when resting.

Google says it could be a sign of lung cancer!

Worst thing you can do is google symptoms! Go to GP to put your mind rest. Maybe you just slept funny or something

GinDaddy · 12/11/2019 14:55

Go to the GP, posting on the internet just garners a thousand more little factoids and opinions that can exacerbate your worries.

NoSauce · 12/11/2019 14:57

Lung cancer? Are you referring to a Pancoast tumour OP? This would be very rare and from what I’ve read you would be in a significant amount of pain for a prolonged period.

Stop googling for a start Smile try and rest it, maybe put an ice pack on it and see if the pain goes, if it doesn’t see your GP if it gets worse.

Mangobluesky · 12/11/2019 19:11

Is there any chance you could be pregnant?

RedSheep73 · 12/11/2019 19:15

Surely it's much more likely you have a muscle pull or a bruise, than lung cancer? or what do you expect a bunch of strangers on the internet to say?

JorisBonson · 12/11/2019 19:39

I get this all the time and suffer with a trapped nerve in one shoulder. The niggle is a sign it's about to twang. Get yourself a good massage.

Shoutymomma · 12/11/2019 19:40

It is also a sign of having your arm cut off. Could that be it?

Celebelly · 12/11/2019 19:42

GP! Re: the cancer thing, shoulder pain is sometimes referred pain from somewhere else, which can sometimes be cancer. But it's most likely just a sore shoulder for some reason.

frostedviolets · 12/11/2019 19:42

I will wait a few more days to see if it resolves but if not I will visit the GP.

It's not painful really, more like a niggly discomfort.

Highly unlikely to be pregnancy as DH has had a vasectomy (but never sent a sample off to check he is still infertile as advised on the leaflet 😡) and also I'm still getting periods, just finished one in fact. So I don't think ectopic pregnancy is a possibility.

It probably is a muscle pull or something equally innocent but I have terrible anxiety so always catastrophise and drive myself crackers thinking the worst of just about everything, googling, pestering people for their opinions, personal experiences etc

Could it be that you only notice the pain when you're resting, because you just don't notice it when otherwise preoccupied? Especially as you describe it as discomfort rather than pain?

user1471453601 · 12/11/2019 19:48

@NoSauce, I know you are wrong. While it's unlikely that OP has a pancost tumour they don't always cause pain. I woke with an ache in my shoulder and a tingle in my little finger. I had no pain whatsoever. I did, however, have a pancost tumour.

Op, get it checked out. It's probably nothing, but it's safest to get it checked out. Good luck

Spoonsmum · 12/11/2019 19:51

I suffer from health anxiety and the worst thing I can do is google symptoms. It’s the worst! Don’t do it. Ever. It’s a horrible downward spiral. As my mum likes to bluntly tell me when I catastrophes: “you’re getting old and that comes with weird aches and pains, it’ll only get worse”
I’m sorry if that sounds like I’m being unhelpful but actually in my case it’s probably true. I think you probably slept funny or over stretched or something without realising. Try a heat pad maybe? Hope you feel better soon

toomuchfaster · 12/11/2019 19:53

It could be a muscle strain from too much phone use. Or have you had a new phone recently?

NoSauce · 12/11/2019 20:00

user1471453601 I was asking the OP whether she thought it was a pancoast tumour, not suggesting it was one.

My experience of this disease ( relative ) was that they had significant pain in their shoulder and arm before being diagnosed.
