AIBU to get flu jab privately?

DD is in Y2 and unfortunately the school has had to postpone the flu vaccination, which was meant to be in the next couple of weeks.

I am thinking of getting it done privately at Superdrug. I often toy with the idea of getting it done myself so I thought maybe we could go together, as she will be nervous of needles. She is not nervous of the squirty nose thing.

AIBU to not have much confidence that the vaccination will be rearranged any time soon (I've heard vague mentionings of December or January), and just get us both done at the same time as soon as the vax comes in at Superdrug - which is apparently going to be next week?

It's not something I've ever done for myself apart from when I am pregnant but DH, who is otherwise well most of the year, has an annoying habit of getting flu right before Christmas (this has happened twice in recent years). He won't get the vaccine but I would prefer DD to be protected, and I reckon if I get it too, she is more likely to.

Our local indy chemists do children. If you find a chemist that does travel vax you will probably have more luck because they need to do children. Oral/nasal arent available for most (all??) Of these. I think the pharm said 6+ for the quad vaccine.

I had mine at the gps 2 weeks ago,.plus the pneumonia one.
You also have the option of getting them done at a private hospital.

Primary kids were done here 1st week in October, however the under 65s are still waiting for the chemist to get stocked. They are having trouble getting stock in.

Schools have been prioritised for the flu vaccine this year, general practice currently unable to get stock of fluenz. At risk children are being advised to have the injection rather than wait.
GP's will do at risk children missed in school but not commissioned to do other school age, schools should be doing their own 'mop up' sessions but everything is very delayed this year.

Children won't get the jab paid for by NHS unless there is clinical need. They will get the sniff in school, or at GP if they do not attend school or are unfit on school immunisation day.

Availability is still patchy, with some places still awaiting deliveries.

It can be difficult finding a pharmacist that will do U18s (some do 16+, others no minors at all)

We had a hell of a time trying to find someone to give DD(5) the flu spray or jab.

School aren’t doing it until December, none of the pharmacies would do it, and the GP refused, saying they needed all the vaccines they had for 2-3-year-olds. And this was despite my DD being an obvious priority with underlying health conditions.
In the end, we spent £100 getting the spray through a private GP.

It does seem to vary massively by area, though, so definitely ask your GP first.

my son got his at the GP.
