To say that Sainsburys chicken is much worse than Aldi chicken

Lovesgood · 10/11/2019 17:02

I bought some Sainsburys chicken tigh fillets and each had a tiny bit of bone in them when I cleaned them! Im glad I noticed, didnt fancy biting on that and hurting my teeth.
A few days later I got Aldi chicken thighs, and....no tiny bones! None! Nada!
So Sainsburys, you can shove your more expensive chicken up your jumper! Grin
By the way this is not the most serious thread, obviously. I just wanted to tell someone Grin

Yep; it all comes from the same place. Any perceived difference is just that.

BobLobLawLLB · 10/11/2019 18:31

Lol at "ethical farmers"

Nat6999 · 10/11/2019 18:59

The only supermarket I will buy meat from is Morrison's, their meat is top quality. It must be good for my mum to rate it, I took her some & now she only buys from there, I get chicken, beef, lamb & pork, all good quality, never had a bad batch ever, their butchery counter is excellent & the staff are very good at advising if you need to know which cuts to buy & how best to cook it.

JaceLancs · 10/11/2019 19:02

I buy most of my meat and poultry at Booths (local produce)
Otherwise I find Morrison’s next best for quality

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/11/2019 19:19

I buy free range chicken - whole or pieces - from M&S, Sainsbury's or Asda, depending on which is most convenient at the time, and - except for the price - I don't notice any difference.
I've never had any 'off' or not- nice chicken

The tougher pieces someone referred to might have come from an older bird - what they used to call a 'boiling fowl', because it was too old to be nice roasted.

TanselleTooTall · 10/11/2019 19:51

Aldi's 15% fat beef mince is tasty and I prefer it to other shops.
Lidl's 28 day matured meat, especially the steaks are always so delicious with lovely texture.
Aldi smoked german cheese - DH only eats this one now as he says it's so tasty.
I really like Aldi's pastrami and I love Lidl's smoked salmon with the orange and horseradish sauce.

TanselleTooTall · 10/11/2019 19:53

Oh, Aldi's luxery pomegranate and raspberry layered yoghurt. Phwoar. So so good.

StarGOLD · 10/11/2019 19:56

A big nod for Morrison's and Booths here...and ALWAYS free range/high welfare chicken.

Serin · 10/11/2019 20:04

I have recently given up.on Aldi. I'm so bored with it and have had to return chicken fillets that were "off" twice.
Now shop at Morrisons. The fresh produce is much better.

LemonPrism · 10/11/2019 20:56

Agree with above Pp. Iceland thighs are a small size (preferable) and v clean.

Sainsbury's corn fed are gross

Whatisthisfuckery · 10/11/2019 21:21

I can’t really tell the difference between the chicken from the main supermarkets, although we only have Aldi, Tesco and Sainsburys in traveling distance for me.

I’ve noticed a decline in quality across the board in the last few years. I won’t buy beef mince anymore because of the amount of fat and liquid that comes out when you cook it, even the 5% fat stuff. I’ve mainly switched to quorn for spag bol etc. Quorn pieces make an amazing chilli, and it costs less and goes much further.

We shopped in Sainsbury’s today because DP wanted her car washed. I don’t like going there anyway because I find it expensive, but the fruit and veg was appalling. The dates were terrible and the quality was awful.

There’s also a shortage of ibuprofen at our local Sainsbury’s. The last three times Ive been in the shelves have been bare. I went to the pharmacy but it was £2 for 24 normal ones. Not on your life pal, I’ll stick the period pain thanks.

Sohololopopo · 10/11/2019 22:44

Sainsbury’s for me is high end. It’s like more middle class than M&S I don’t fucking like it. It’s overpriced nonsense though, if you ever want something fabulous Sainsbury’s do do these wonderful quadruple chocolate cookies they’re in a purple box - Y U M!

TheQueef · 10/11/2019 22:49

Whatis have you tried Tesco frozen mince? I hate the added water and having to boil everything instead of browning, the frozen is ok to cook from frozen and doesn't drop a pint of water.

AlviesMam · 10/11/2019 23:17

I never buy Aldi chicken anymore. I bought chicken breasts a few times and they had large bones in them. I was put off and won't buy chicken anymore from there Halloween Shock

BlythesEyes · 11/11/2019 00:23

I used to work for a large supermarket. It used between 4-6 suppliers for its chicken at any one time. So did every other supermarket. The bones are just someone not processing it right on the production line.
Look at the health mark on the product you buy. You'll find they vary store to store, region to region and product to product.
Supermarkets use various suppliers in case one has an issue and they have a shortage.

Watisiitallaboot · 11/11/2019 01:18

Return it and get your money back or phone head office and let them know...chances are you will be sent a voucher. ALWAYS keep your receipt for fresh produce from Aldu, they are very good on refunding monies 😉

TheNestedIf · 11/11/2019 01:54

I had a quick browse through an Aldi just before Christmas a couple of years back, only because I was passing one . They were selling a 3 bird roast (a turducken) and I thought "Oooh!" Then I looked more closely and it was full of added water.

No, thank you. If I'm going to buy meat, I'd like it to taste of something. And I already pay for water.

TanselleTooTall · 11/11/2019 02:34

"Turducken"

Fatshedra · 11/11/2019 06:41

I think most chicken meat is pretty mushy and tasteless these days. I expect they rear the fastest growing but you end up with huge lumps of breast meat with no flavour. Boned chicken thighs are better but you do need to check for bone chips.
Perhaps they should name the breed of chicken on the pack so you can select ones that are smaller and slower growing. I find even the organically grown ones are pretty tasteless too.

TabbyMumz · 11/11/2019 09:21

It all comes from the same place. The same chicken factory I mean. By us there is a chicken factory which provides chicken to all the different supermarkets. The more expensive supermarkets dont get different chicken.

ghostofharrenhal · 11/11/2019 09:34

I don't buy chicken pieces any longer, I buy whole free range chickens and joint them, it works out cheaper and the taste is better, plus the carcass can be used to make stock. Jamie does a really good video on how to joint chickens, it's easy once you've done it a couple of times.

yearinyearout · 11/11/2019 09:38

@WhoisitnowRalph I have had Sainsbury's chicken breast with that vile rubbery texture numerous times. It's always been the packaged ones (not the ones off the butcher counter that they put on a tray and wrap in clingfilm) each time I have complained and they've always refunded me but it's most annoying when you've cooked a meal to find t inedible.

Iratxe · 13/10/2023 13:41

Just bought Aldi thighs seems Sldi now sourcing from Sainsbury butcher . Too many rib bones taking them back tonight

Justhonesr · 19/11/2023 07:23

I was so upset to spend a lot of money on Organic Sainsbury chicken that I could not even bite through, It was like RUBBER.
Worst ever. Where are they purchasing it from.
Sainsbury. DO something about this please. Check out it is Organic and they are being fed the right foods.

Georgeandzippyzoo · 19/11/2023 07:45

I usually buy sainsburys chicken breasts and find everyone loves the flavour. Our pup was very poorly and I was advised to boil him some chicken . No issue. Had to do it again, with aldi, and there was some really strange crap coming off them and it smelt weird so I didn't dare feed them to the dog

Also agree that Aldi chicken doesn't always last to the date.
