Whose responsible?

I recently rented a house with a small extension. The door pictured leads to the back garden.

Every morning I come down to the cast of bugs life in the extension. They are obviously getting in through the cracks.

I don’t want to rip the previous filler out and potentially break the door edge (if that’s what it’s called) but there are also other holes that need filling, such as, the window frames and the plastic roofing (needs replacing really).

I’d be more comfortable with a professional coming in to do it, or even the LL, so if something goes wrong, it won’t be coming out of my deposit.

I’m not sure if it’s down to me or the LL to fix the problems.

I thought I’d ask on here before I mention it to the LL as I don’t want to come across as being cheeky.

I don't know the answer but am disappointed by the lack of bugs in the picture.

What do you think is going to go wrong if you put a bit of filler in?

Nip to Wilko (other suppliers are available), pick up some filler and you can have it done before lunch.

MrsMaiselsMuff did you read the whole post? It doesn’t just need more filler, the previous filler needs to come out first.
Simple job maybe but is it my job? That’s the question. What’s about all the other holes I mentioned?

On the whole, it’s not as simple as just getting filler and banging it in. I want it to last, not just cover up the previous mess.

I’d like to know whose responsibility it is.

I would contact the agent or landlord. Household maintenance like this is his responsibility. If you feel confident that you could do the job, you can offer to do it, but you should get the landlord's permission, just in case something goes wrong.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 10/11/2019 12:59

Do you rent through and agency or direct from the LL? Why not ask them?

It should say in your tenancy agreement.

With deposits, I always think that a decent landlord won't deduct money unreasonably (and trying to take money because you did repairs would be ultra unreasonable!). A shithead on the other hand will make excuses to keep the deposit no matter what.

PinkiOcelot · 10/11/2019 13:04

OP I would say the LL. You shouldn’t have to be putting up with bugs in your home.

User10191818 · 10/11/2019 15:06

We had a really bad LL with our last house, the house was awful and we did repairs on request of the LL, who felt it was our responsibility but come moving out time they tried to take all of our deposit for things they said we could do but felt it wasn’t done good enough.
I went through a really long & messy process to get the deposit back (which we did, in full), but that has made me more cautious than usual.

Thank you for your replies, I will talk to the LL.
