To think this is odd of DH?

DH and I have been together 7 years. In that time he has often bought me tampons whilst he’s been at shop simply because I don’t like going into shops. I’ve used the same brand for all those 7 years.
Yesterday he went to asda and I asked him to buy me some tampons. He called me from the shop saying they didn’t have any tampax, only “always”. I said it was strange, as they always have them so he asked what the box looked like etc ... I told him and he said they definately only have always. Eventually he said he could see a blue tampax box but they were “inserting ones”. Confused I said “but that’s what I use ... “ he said “but you always use pads?” I’ve never, ever used pads!!

AIBU to think this is odd? He’s never known me use pads and has bought my tampons for me many, many times ...

I would suggest that as it is a product he doesn't use himself he would be completely thrown by the choice of alternatives and not been entirely sure what to get. Why couldn't he have messaged you from the shop with the other options?

Why can't you order online or go shopping yourself?

53rdWay · 10/11/2019 09:48

He’ll be buying the same box, he won’t be bothered about the contents, the usual box won’t have been there and he can’t find the alternative because he didn’t know what he was buying in the first place.

Yes, I bet it’s this. Unless there have been other memory issues.

DirtyWindow · 10/11/2019 09:49

It is odd.

Either he's having a massive brain fart? (I'll health? Hangover?) or maybe he had never really considered what Tampax actually are, and assumed they are pads? That would be a bit odd for an adult though Hmm

bobstersmum · 10/11/2019 09:49

Has he been replaced by an identical robot?

MollyHuaCha · 10/11/2019 09:53

Bit of a non-story really.

Bluerussian · 10/11/2019 09:57

Being as he's a bloke, it's not odd :-) (hides now for anticipated flaming).

Livelovebehappy · 10/11/2019 10:02

Just buy your own stuff I would say. My DH picks up shopping all the time, but I would not expect him to pick up personal stuff like this tbh. By the time you’ve had all the toing and froing of phone calls on the matter, you could have just picked them up yourself.

sonjadog · 10/11/2019 10:02

He will have been picking the box up without really thinking about the contents. Now the box he usually buys isn't there and he suddenly has to think about what he actually is buying, he realizes that he doesn't know. So he phones you to ask. This is a non-event.

Butchyrestingface · 10/11/2019 10:06

It is odd, yes. But nowhere near as odd as someone who has to ask their SO to buy sanitary protection for them because they “don’t like” going into shops.

Bearing in mind the above, this is definitely one of those times I’d let it slide...

Zaphodsotherhead · 10/11/2019 10:12

To be fair, I'd be the same if I was sent to the Screwfix warehouse.

WorraLiberty · 10/11/2019 10:14

You lost me at "simply because I don’t like going into shops." Confused

healthylifestylee · 10/11/2019 10:14

My dp could go in and pick the right ones up but I'm not sure if he knows the brand name or the packaging or both
But if he's happy to go into the shop for me I really don't care if he remembers or not.
Your dp checked and probably just got confused as there is so many brands and types

Blippolbblopp · 10/11/2019 10:14

He probably never really takes notice of what hes getting, but it does seem odd. Id be a bit Confused if it was my partner

It is odd, yes. But nowhere near as odd as someone who has to ask their SO to buy sanitary protection for them because they “don’t like” going into shops

Give over. Its not odd to ask your other half to go to the shop if you dont like going. We dont know the OP's circumstances as to why she doesnt like going and she doesnt need to tell strangers on the internet either

I have anxiety and depression and i dont like going to the shops. I avoid going to shops as much as i can and do most of my shopping online but if i unexpectedly come on ( PCOS ) then my parter will go and get what i need because he knows i dont like going

ChrisPrattsFace · 10/11/2019 10:25

I honestly couldn’t tell you what brand, or type I buy... because I go off the packaging colour. I like what I use but if they changed the packaging I’d be buggered knowing what it is I use! 😂

DarlingNikita · 10/11/2019 10:25

Was he getting confused between applicator and non- applicator?

I think this is it too. He didn’t see the usual box, had to read the box for the first time, and didn’t know the terms.

SirVixofVixHall · 10/11/2019 10:27

Different packaging, which is all he ever looked at maybe ?
As an isolated incident it isn’t worrying, he may never have given them any thought beyond the colour of the box. If he is having other memory issues then that is a different story.

Soozikinzii · 10/11/2019 10:30

I don't think that's odd at all he just hasn't noticed .

callmeadoctor · 10/11/2019 10:31

I have the same problem with Dhs beer, because I don't drink it, I don't pay much attention to which he has. Just the same IMO.

PerfectionistProcrastinator · 10/11/2019 10:41

I wouldn’t worry about it. I just think in general men don’t think too deeply about sanitary products. He just picks up a box of whatever he usually picks up.

I’ve talked to my DP many times about what I use for various reasons (pads). But if I asked him what I use I honestly don’t think he would have any idea.

DishingOutDone · 10/11/2019 10:41

My H would do this whatever it was, wouldn't have to be tampons, just anything he couldn't really give a fuck about; it doesn't impact him so why should he care?

But we do need to know why you cant shop yourself; is this all shops, always or just certain things you can't cope with?

HeyNotInMyName · 10/11/2019 10:43

Yes it is odd.
But then I ve seen many men who seem to be fall into that category of ‘Ive done x or y many times but don’t seem to be able to remember about it all’ and be left off the hook.
I would have a chat with him and tell him you are extremely concerned about his memory and ask him if he has had any other issues and needs to go and see the GP. And if he doesn’t have any memory issues then this tells you more about what is going on.

FWIW I’ve seen that sort of behaviour as a PA way of not having to do x or y. In that case, buying tampons for his DW.

HeyNotInMyName · 10/11/2019 10:47

@DishingOutDone, why do you need to know why the OP doesn’t like to go in a shop? Does it change how acceptable the way her DH is acting at all? Or is on the assumption that everyone shouod be totally independent and shouod never ever ask for help/support from anyone, incl very close people like your partner?
Does it also apply to women refusing to help their DP and play dump ‘because it doesn’t impact them’?

God some days, I wish women were acting like men and stop giving a f* about anyone else bar themselves.

DishingOutDone · 10/11/2019 10:55

@Hey - I'm not the only who has asked or will ask. It would make a difference if its because she can't be arsed, or if she is unable to go shopping. Some people are saying that she should buy her own things and never expect her H to get it right. But what if she can't? Then its even more important that he is able to find his arse with both hands (and the correct sanitary protection). So don't see what your point to me in particular is.

nethunsinthatway · 10/11/2019 10:58

Just buy your own stuff I would say. My DH picks up shopping all the time, but I would not expect him to pick up personal stuff like this tbh.

Why not?? Do you pick up his shower gel, or favourite breakfast cereal or whatever?

WorraLiberty · 10/11/2019 11:04

HeyNotInMyName ...... God some days, I wish women were acting like men and stop giving a f about anyone else bar themselves.*

Jesus Christ, have you always been that sexist?
