To ask how much you will spend on Christmas Day meal

Just that really. Last year was the first time we've ever had family over to ours on Christmas Day (we had recently moved to a large house) and we went all and spent a fortune. We're hosting again this year and whilst I want the day to be special I don't want to go overboard and spend heaps on fancy food. We will be 7 adults, 1 of which is a vegan and no children. What is a reasonable budget to set?

We're veggie so no meat, which brings the cost right down. This year we're having veggie haggis with roast potatoes, parsnips, pine nut sprouts and Stilton and red wine gravy. No dessert as we're always too full after lunch to enjoy it, so we have Christmas pudding in the evening with a whiskey or two. So about £20, including the pud. We do our drinking while we're cooking - a bottle of champagne usually, so another £15ish for that. There's three of us.

Not much. Me and 2 dc's.
I do buy an organic chicken which is approx £15.

We eat at 3pm,after the starter and main meal, pause for washing up,pudding the cheese, biscuits, grapes later .No need for a buffet.
So apart from the extra cost of the turkey ,pigs in blankets and cheese it doesn't cost much more than an ordinary roast.
Ask people to bring wine.

Wild turkeys, home made mead....
This is all so pretentious.......

Ah, come on it's Christmas. Let her have her Kirsty Allsop moment, even if it is a bit cringe.

I'm a self confessed poncey wrapper and make my own wreaths, garlands and table centerpieces every year. I'm the first to admit I'm being unnecessarily poncey though Grin

The poster talking about wild turkeys lives in Maine, where they actually have wild turkeys. So not at all pretentious 🤣

It’s Christmas indeed. For many, it’s the second most important feast of the year. Celebrating is nice.
