Grown women referring to their father as Daddy

Can we please make this illegal? It makes me cringe whenever I see or hear it.

Why can't you just say Dad?........ Simple. Effective. Not creepy.

Sorry about your daddy.

Nothin' wrong with it. They will always be mummy and daddy to me.

onetimeonlyy · 09/11/2019 21:15

I've never heard a grown man call his dad Daddy to be honest

Mummy and Daddy or Ma and Pa for me!

TSSDNCOP · 09/11/2019 21:16

I wasn't trying to offend anyone

Well, it turns out you have. So at least have the grace to knock off the stupid emojis.

VanyaHargreeves · 09/11/2019 21:16

Another thread were in apparently shock news, people do things differently, depending on upbringing and culture

zukiecat · 09/11/2019 21:16

My daughter is 26 and calls me Mummy, she lives at home with me, and I like being called Mummy

Both of my daughters call my dad GaGa, because they couldn't say Granddad, so said GaGa instead.

I'm in NE Scotland and I think it's just personal preference.

TSSDNCOP · 09/11/2019 21:17

Thanks Glenda. You’re a sweetie.

Yoohoo16 · 09/11/2019 21:18

It’s not used where we live and I’m glad. I don’t like it.

Mil refers to fil as daddy. ‘I’m sure daddy will help if you ask’ urgh.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 09/11/2019 21:19

My brothers always say Ma or Da when we talk to each other about my parents but it's always mummy to her face.

She prefers it.

Coolwinter · 09/11/2019 21:19

I know that many people do call their dad daddy for their life and it is normal for their peers.

However I don’t think anyone here can argue that are some grown women who perpetuate a bit of a creepy ‘I’m your little princess’ to their Daddies to get them to be big protective generous Daddy and give them attention.

I’ve not seen this often. But I have seen it once or twice and it is icky! And pretty offensive to women as a whole. So I’m sticking up for part of OPs point.

@TSSDNCOP

I'm very sorry for your loss and causing you any additional pain during such a difficult time. As I said it was just a silly comment which was clearly in bad taste. The emoji was taking the mic out of myself for the regional terms I use which the rest of the country would find strange.

I've got Irish friends and when they do it, it sounds endearing. I have a couple English friends that do it sparingly on social media and it makes me CRINGE.

DaffodilsAreMyFav · 09/11/2019 21:22

Windygate - I like that you describe your mother as "very Irish". Hope my DDs would describe me the same way.

NerdyCurvyInkedandPervy · 09/11/2019 21:22

I call my Dad Dad, except for when i tell him i love him, then for some reason i call him Daddy.

Have quite a few friends in the kink community who have or are Daddies and i did find it quite weird at first, until I understood thier dynamics better, and now i just see it as another term of enderment or a title or status. Whatever, they aren't hurting anyone.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 09/11/2019 21:24

We all dropped Mummy and Daddy at about 8. DF would have preferred his given name from then on, but Dad stuck.
DD (14) still calls me Mummy sometimes. My parents are Mum and Dad. Dh's parents are Ma and Pa, or Mater and Pater.

I've honestly always found it a bit weird than any adult would call their parents Mummy and Daddy. Someone mentioned Jack Whitehall upthread - he called his mother Mummy on his episode of WDYTYA and I got a very strong feeling he'd got "stuck" at age 11 when he was sent away to school.

VenusTiger · 09/11/2019 21:25

@onetimeonlyy as previously posted, my DH calls his dad daddy (he’s NI)

TSSDNCOP · 09/11/2019 21:25

Thank you OP.

Hopefully this won’t sound twee; I find the names people call their parents endearing. I wish I had the chance just one more time to say daddy.

TSSDNCOP · 09/11/2019 21:26

I think I missed the not trying to sound twee mark. Sorry.

onetimeonlyy · 09/11/2019 21:27

@TSSDNCOP

That's a nice way to think about it you're right 💐

SunshineAngel · 09/11/2019 21:29

I call him Dad, apart from when I want something, then it's Daddy. As long as it keeps working, I'll saying it :').

Japanesejazz · 09/11/2019 21:31

I call mine Pater
My adult daughters call me mummy and mother when referring to me in conversation with others, they call their father the sperm donor which is accurate 😂

ThebishopofBanterbury · 09/11/2019 21:31

Mummy and daddy forever as far as I'm concerned. Just the way it is. Don't give a shit what anyone thinks frankly!

charactersonclothesaretrashy · 09/11/2019 21:31

It's the norm in Ireland

onetimeonlyy · 09/11/2019 21:32

Hahaha aside from being absolutely slated, enjoying reading the names your kids call you! Some weird and wonderful ones!!
