Dentist/dentist worker

Hi there,
This is nothing to do with a dentist treatment or teeth.

I just wanted advice from a dentist or someone who works in a dentist, would the dentist prise a child's mouth open if they were scared? And pull there head back into the chair whilst they try to sit up?

I work at a dental practice and no, that should never happen.

The idea is to build confidence in a child when they’re having their check ups/ dental treatment, especially if they’re scared.

Have you spoken to the dentist involved about what happened op? Dental practices are governed by the GDC and have to adhere to very strict complaints procedures.

If you don’t want to speak to the dentist involved you could ask to speak to/ email the practice manager.

Nope for both of those examples. If the parent offers to ‘help’ by holding the child down themselves I will explain that is abuse

Practice manager here. Big no. Our dentists would encourage small kids with lots of positive reinforcement, promises of a sticker, practice of just sitting in the seat and "going for a ride" on it, or watching a parent have a check up, but the things you mentioned above should never happen.

The practice manager was not in but I will be going back to speak to her. He spoke very nastily too. And pointed right in my sons face.
I kind of spoke to the dentist but I was so mad I could hardly speak at all. I spoke to the dental nurse who was super nice and I said I could tell she knew what he was doing as she was really lovely and she said yes I don't like it. I am still so cross.

I held my sons hand as he half laid down but I didn't even force him to lay down, that doesn't help when they are scared does it.

Apart from the practice manager is there anywhere else I can report?

I would speak to the practice manager first and if you’re still not happy you could report it to the General Dental Council (GDC)

Thankyou,
I will speak to her next week. The dentist is a partner in the practice so I can't imagine anything will be done
