To wonder what life would be like if we didn't?

I love my bed but often wonder what an alternative life spent round the clock would feel like!!

AnyMinuteNow and why should your personal preference mean anything to anyone if you don't have a link to back up your claim that that's universally accepted - or MN - chat forum etiquette?

AnyMinuteNow · 14/11/2019 18:02

Then I can only assume it really didnt happen..

Which is really good to know.

AgnesGrundy · 14/11/2019 18:26

AnyMinuteNow I neither know nor care whether the cat experiment happened, but I find the demand that posters on a chat forum follow academic essay writing etiquette as ridiculous as I'd find an academic essay about what DH and DD said to your MIL, punctuated with Biscuit s.

AnyMinuteNow · 14/11/2019 18:30

Yeo, didn't happen, and thats a relief Smile. Makes me happy

AgnesGrundy · 14/11/2019 18:37

AnyMinuteNow well that's nice, have a lovely evening...

AnyMinuteNow · 14/11/2019 18:38

Thanks, I am. You too. Wink

AgnesGrundy · 14/11/2019 18:44

Don't look at this:

long term sleep deprivation by hypothalamic stimulation in cats

AnyMinuteNow · 14/11/2019 18:47

What do you mean dont look at this ?

I might if it shows the source, but not until.

It also, from your title isn't what was shockingly claimed upthread. This is through hypothalamic stimulation. Different see?

You do see how different it is? How far removed from the shocking claim upthread?

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 14/11/2019 18:48

I've only read the first page because I see someone beat me to it but cannot recommend Dr Matthew Walker's Why We Sleep enough.

Equal parts fascinating and terrifying.

His interview on the Joe Rogan's podcast is also worth a listen.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 14/11/2019 19:03

I think someone on this thread needs a nap.

Anyway, thank you to the posters who have reminded me to re-read Why We Sleep. Absolutely fascinating book. I love the idea of bi-phasic sleep patterns; Pepys is a good read on this Grin

I had never really thought about the difference between GA-induced 'sleep' and ordinary sleep, but you're right, it is an odd feeling to wake from a GA without the same sense of time having passed. But it's not actual 'sleep', I guess.

AnyMinuteNow · 14/11/2019 19:05

Yes, agreed.

Not recommending the book though, no, definitely not

bbcessex · 14/11/2019 19:40

For what it's worth, I found to it really upsetting to see the 'cats experiment' sentence put so matter-of-factly too.

Back to the subject.

I've been in a children's hospital ward with my son this week.. very limited sleep felt, given the uncomfortable chair bed, lights on & off and noise of nurses / patients. yet my sit bit said +80s 'good sleep' and i feel fine!

I think switching off with sleep is vital to my mental health, as it’s a bit of a break from the frantic of life. I’d really really miss sleep! Maybe it’s just so vital that we can’t evolve beyond that.

MamaWeasel · 14/11/2019 21:59

@bbcessex....could that be adrenaline working its magic on you? ☺
