Why can't you do something nice

Name changed as so outing.

We have an alleyway that is quite steep that leads to the primary school.

Struggle to get kids up it most days and it is well used. I decided it might be nice to make some clay shapes to make it a bit fun to walk up. Painted and covered them in PVA and stuck them up with industrial glue. They weren't great, helped by the kids but a bit of fun.

They have been up one day and half have already been pulled off. WHY would you let your primary school age kids do this in front of you and not say anything.

I didn't see it, I've heard from others what happened when they found out it was me, as I didn't broadcast it, as not entirely sure it is legal Blush

I'm just really pissed off, tried to do something nice for the kids and people have ruined it. Got to tell my kid now, what has happened now and she will be gutted, she's only 5 Angry

It could become a local tradition, children could add their pictures to the walls.

I think this sounds like a really lovely idea OP. Good on you for trying to brighten up a drab area. Why not try talking to your local council to see if you can work with them and the local residents so that it can be done officially?

pissedoff2019 · 09/11/2019 11:13

I love the way that some of you totally get it. It's not the best area but hopefully it will inspire some of the other mums and dads to do something creative. I need to call the council anyway as the leaves and dog shit are becoming a problem but scared that they will just close the alleyway if too many problems arise.

I remember when I was at primary school there was g patch of grass on the way that nobody was looking after. It was overgrown, full of rubbish and an eyesore so a group of parents spent a whole weekend stripping it all down, clearing the rubbish and planting flowers and making little footstep pathways through the flower beds. It looked lovely. Within a week it was destroyed, all the pavement footsteps smashed, the flowers ripped up and rubbish everywhere. The general opinion was “it wasn’t theirs to decorate”. Some people like the misery that surrounds them and god forbid anyone try and do something nice.

Do you live in a village? That may or not begin with f?....someone has done random stuff around there which worked...for a while but tbh yes kids can be destructive shits but legally they shouldn't be there so legally they can be arseholes. You should have kept them for your garden the items being broken etc is just causing more mess.

Lovely idea and extraordinary that some parents would deem it ok for their children to remove the painted clay shapes! Would the washable chalk idea work? That would give brilliant scope for different themes .... potentially a lot of work though, and some people would undoubtedly object to that too.

JasonPollack · 09/11/2019 20:48

Oo @pissedoff2019 what about painting it with blackboard paint and putting a couple of chalks? Obviously they'd be pinched eventually but a bulk lot would last a while. Then the kids could decorate it themselves.
