So We're at my Mother in Laws unexpectedly. even more unexpectedly I have come onto my period really really heavily earlier on today. I had 2 pads left in my hand bag and it's heavy and enough to need to use both at the same time. So I changed them.

Here is the ridiculous AIBU.. my husband thinks I should put my used san pro in a bag and take it home with us as the bathroom bin in his parents guest bathroom isn't to be used for things like that. I think he's being ridiculous.

Aibu to use a bin for the reason a bin was invented?

Held? Hell*

OMGshefoundmeout · 08/11/2019 05:34

If I was just there for a few hours I’d do as your DH suggests. If I was there overnight or longer I’d wrap it up as you have and put it in the guest bathroom bin but I would make sure that either me or DH emptied the bin into the outside bin before leaving. If that wasn’t practical I would wrap them up well and dispose of them in the kitchen bin.

I know I wouldn’t want the job of disposing of someone else’s used sanpro so I wouldn’t give someone else the job of disposing of mine. I would also be concerned that a guest bathroom bin might not be emptied as regularly as a kitchen bin and so there might be a chance they would remain there long enough to get smelly or flyblown.

annabell22 · 08/11/2019 05:39

Is there a bag in the bin? If so, I would tie it up and put it in the kitchen bin or dustbin before you leave.

Catladiesaremyheroes · 08/11/2019 06:02

Surely you will be cleaning the guest room and bathroom before you leave? This would include emptying bins, etc.

I would find it odd not to clean up after ourselves.

IWantADifferentName · 08/11/2019 06:35

Use the bin or.......flush it!!!!

peachypetite · 08/11/2019 06:44

Use the bin and empty it before you leave

SarahTancredi · 08/11/2019 06:47

Use the bin an empty it when you leave.

Your dh is being weird

oohnicevase · 08/11/2019 06:47

^^ you cant flush two big pads ffs!!! You would block the loo!!

Inforthelonghaul · 08/11/2019 07:39

I must admit I wouldn’t use the bathroom bin under these circumstances in case it wasn’t emotion a regular basis and started to smell.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 08/11/2019 08:07

Why on earth is his proposed alternative taking it home and not putting them in the outside bin directly?

Stuckinanutshell · 08/11/2019 08:39

If he wants to take it home so bad, he can put it in his pocket.

Otherwise put it in the bin that literally exists and was designed for just this sort of issue.

Booboostwo · 08/11/2019 08:42

Surely your PILs have a menstruating hut at the bottom of the garden where you can hide your shame for the next 4-7 days.

Honeybee85 · 08/11/2019 08:53

@Booboostwo

I think my DH would actually love that 😂😂😂😂
No putting up with my crankiness during that time of the month

57Varieties · 08/11/2019 08:57

Well, I have to say that if it was me I'd discreetly put it in the outside bin.

Me too

Booboostwo · 08/11/2019 09:01

Honeybee85 I was, obviously, joking, but on a serious note, some women around the world (for example in rural parts of India) are traditionally forced to spend their period in menstruation huts away from the main village because they are deemed impure. This makes them vulnerable to attacks and rapes. The same kind of attitude but to a much lesser degree informs how we see menstruation as well. Women are disgusting when they menstruate, menstrual products are disgusting, menstruation should be hidden, secret and not discussed.

Honeybee85 · 08/11/2019 09:06

@booboostwo

I know. It happens in Nepal too. I saw it on TV a few years ago and I believe one girl died there as she was murdered or frozen to death, don’t remember exactly. I think it’s appalling.
But unfortunately it’s present in many cultures, women are not allowed to cook during that time, having to clean themselves ritually afterwards etc.
I always wondered if it were men who had periods if periods would be treated as something heroic instead of something shameful as is now often the case.

Booboostwo · 08/11/2019 09:08

Honeybee85 if men had periods there would be tonnes of medical research devoted to the subject, there would be work accommodations for the time of the month, legal protections for their suffering, and yes they would be worshiped as heroes!

Honeybee85 · 08/11/2019 09:09

I remember now some kind of Indian wisdom saying that women should bleed (their menstrual blood) on the soil so the earth wouldn’t demand so much blood from the men (referring to the many wars troughout history until now).
Though it sounds a bit strange, somehow I thought it was a beautiful saying.

Honeybee85 · 08/11/2019 09:10

@Booboostwo
That crossed my mind too, they would have days off during that time of the month and bragging who lost the most blood! And not be told to suck it up and not complain because it’s part of being a man in this case.

PuppyMonkey · 08/11/2019 09:17

I think I’d probably just put it wrapped up in the bathroom bin, but on the final day, I might leave the bin out in an obvious place, I dunno, in the middle of the room or something to give the (not very subtle) message “please empty me.”Grin

PepsiCat33 · 08/11/2019 09:35

I would never leave my used pads in someone else's bin - always wrap them up and dispose at home! And would be grossed out if someone left them in my bin, wrapped or not. I'd err on the side of caution and take them away with you or dispose outside - but definitely don't flush as someone suggested!!

Booboostwo · 08/11/2019 09:40

A question for those of you who would take their used pads home, would you do the same if you had a nosebleed or cut your finger? Would you hide the bloody tissues and carry them around to throw away at home?

SarahTancredi · 08/11/2019 09:40

pepsi

That's really odd. Surely you just tie up the bin bag and stick.outside job done.

You can't keep them.in.a.bag for a week. Or maybe just dont invite women over

57Varieties · 08/11/2019 09:46

I’m not getting the cut finger or nosebleed comparison. Generally both these things would generate a far lesser quantity of blood than a period that soaked 2 pads worn at once.

SarahTancredi · 08/11/2019 09:50

All the more reason to not humiliate some poor woman or even worse a young girl who started her first period on a sleep over by making them.trek to the wheely bin at the end of the driveway in bloody pyjamas rather than use a bin.

It's no more gross than 2 day old chicken and the squishy carrots you binned a couple if days ago still in the kitchen bin.
