I'm having heart palpitations I think?

Well I'm not sure what it is, but every few seconds my heart sort of jumps (if you've ever heard the expression 'my heart was in my mouth', it's a bit like that.

I'm not sure what if anything to do about it?

Have you had the flu or an illness recently? I have suffered the same in the past few weeks and ended up at a&e after calling 111. They had lasted 18 hours at this point. Now I am waiting on a scan if my heart and a heart monitor for 7 days.

AgnesNaismith · 07/11/2019 06:26

Don’t fuck around with heart issues. I’d be going to A&E but at the very least call 111.

Herocomplex · 07/11/2019 06:31

Why were you having an ECG?

Starlet79 · 07/11/2019 06:39

Heart palpitations are really common and in my case I found they are triggered by extreme stress and anxiety and worrying about them seems to make them worse.

I had palpitations constantly for 3-4 weeks when I was pregnant with my youngest. To and from the doctors who didn’t seem concerned, I had an ECG, even got referred for a heart scan and a seven day ECG and my heart is completely healthy! Funny that once all the tests were done they seemed to go away. I think the worrying about it made it worse. I was also under a lot of stress at the time.

If you’re concerned go back to your GP.

Hi, hope you managed to get some sleep. I went through this recently, it is a massive pain and quite scary.

Unless you are having other symptoms (shortness of breath, chest pain, fatigue, etc - 111 can give you a list), I would book an appointment with your GP as soon as you can. You will probably need an ECG and maybe blood tests (possibly scans) to figure out what kind of arrhythmia you have. It is common I have been told and usually completely harmless.

Do get yourself checked out again though. It can get worse/change quite quickly. My percentage of abnormal heartbeats went from 2% to 23% in two week. Just because your ECG has been normal in the past doesn’t mean it is normal now. Sending you Flowers

Yes, I've been ill recently.

I’m sorry to hear you’ve been ill, do you feel particularly worried at the moment? I would make an appointment if you can.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/11/2019 08:47

My last ECG was abnormal. Whatever that means.

In that case, and given your post at 4:46 implies this is still going on, it sounds like you should get it checked out. Which (I think) probably means A&E rather than GP as the latter may not have the relevant equipment.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/11/2019 08:48

Sorry, forgot to bold the first sentence, that was a quote from the OP, my heart is fine!

AgnesNaismith · 07/11/2019 08:50

it Is impossible to tell what kind of irregular beats OP is experiencing unless they are seen in person. Having lost two people to heart attacks I believe heart issues should be checked out by a medical professional, in person, as soon as possible. My DH also has AF and was admitted to hospital when he was seen with this, as it can cause stroke.

OP it is likely you are fine but you need to get checked out now and not ask for medical advice on the internet.

altogirl · 07/11/2019 09:03

I've had this and it turned out to be allergies to certain foods and medications. It's harmless but not fun to experience. I couldn't sleep when it was happening.

Elieza · 07/11/2019 20:59

OP, Defo get checked out.

I know it’s not phlegm in your lungs that you are complaining about,it’s your heart jumping, but the passageways from your lungs are next door to your heart and it’s surrounding passageways apparently, and when the passageways to the lungs are swollen with gunk inside them and pushing against the heart and it’s passageways that must cause the palpitations.

I’m looking at all the replies about people coming down with bugs and they get palpitations. That would explain it. The body creates mucous to kill the bugs and the palpitations start.

But don’t presume its that, defo get checked out. It could be something else.

Hoping you are feeling better today Smile
