Stem cell donor registry help

As I might have mentioned this before, my husband has a form of leukaemia. We, as a family and friends, are putting in a concerted effort to widen the base of donors for stem cells registry.

It costs nothing, they send you a swab kit for the inside of your mouth and a prepaid envelope, the only request is that the envelope is posted as soon after the swab is taken as possible.

You have to be under 61, UK resident and in general good health. The sample is stored anonymously until your 61st birthday and if there is a match found, all ot takes is a special kind of blood sample to donate.

I'd ask of you to please join in if you can, the more samples we have, the more is the likelihood that someone's son, daughter, wife, mother or father, brother or sister will beat this evil.

Also, if you're willing, sharing the link onwards would be most appreciated.

I thank you in advance for your time and effort.

No worries!

I should have added that you will get get a donor card, info pack and a massive thank you once swabs have been processed.

I don't really mind. I don't mind being able to do something to save someone's life. I never did, but after seeing what my DH went through, I'm up in arms about it a bit.

It's an amazing thing to do for someone.

Sending warm wishes to you and your family.

Got my swabs ready to do however currently pregnant and planning to breastfeed so will likely be a few years before I can donate yet Sad Still, worth being registered

I have sent my swab off today

I am on the Anthony Nolan register and almost a year ago received a phone call as I may have been a possible match. I received the kit for more blood tests to be taken. I sent them off and unfortunately wasn't an exact match but they found one.

I was fully prepared to up and leave for a night or two to help someone.

My thoughts are I'd wish someone would do it for my family if they, heaven forbid, are in those circumstances so I'd do it for others.

A friend of mine was a match for his sister, she’s fine now. The donation took about 8 hours, his blood was removed, centrifuged and then what they didn’t want put back.

I am already registered, hope I get the opportunity to help one day.

My husband was also diagnosed with leukaemia this summer, and I signed up for the swab kit a few days ago having seen a request posted by a friend on Facebook.

My husband is unlikely to require a stem cell transplant at this point but everything else we've been through has been horrifying enough, I can't even imagine what it must be like to have to take that next step. I'd be glad to be called.
