To think Asos is headed in the wrong direction?

So at the end of October I bought a pair of suede knee high boots from ASOS for £75 (full price). I noticed they had them in another colour too.

Really liked them when they came, so went to look at the other to suggest to DH as Xmas present. But price has gone up to £80 for both colours. Double checked and definitely paid £75. I don’t think it’s just a mistake that’s been corrected because the boots were priced at £75 for a good bit, then price went up at beginning of November.

This really puts me off using Asos, on top of recent decline in customer service generally. I know they’re trying to claw back money but this will just drive people away surely?

I would have bought a pair in another colour if they’d stayed the same price. Now I’ll just wait for sale if they’re playing silly buggers with prices, or not buy them at all.

I couldn’t get overly excited about £5.

AskMeHow · 06/11/2019 12:18

It's certainly driving their employees away as well. Lots are unhappy with recent changes.

Fatted · 06/11/2019 12:22

Supply and demand and all of that. The boots are now i and higher demand, so they can put up the price.

I have to admit though, if you were happy to pay £75 again for them, I don't really understand why suddenly £80 is unreasonable? I could understand if they were twice the price, but honestly wouldn't be bothered about a fiver.

Icecreamsoda99 · 06/11/2019 12:23

They may have been priced incorrectly in the first place. I get more annoyed the other way when the price gets slashed but I accept that is how retail works.

Butchyrestingface · 06/11/2019 12:25

Couldn’t get exercised over £5 when I was already spunking £75 on an item.

I agree that the price hike is a bit strange though.

HRH2020 · 06/11/2019 12:27

I heard ASOS chuck any returns worth under a certain amount in landfill rather than sell them on.

summerbumz · 06/11/2019 12:27

I've noticed this too. I had three or four items in my favourites ready to buy. Next time I checked, every single price had gone up by at least a few pounds!

Petrichor11 · 06/11/2019 12:33

Is it really so shocking that prices can go up? Obviously traditional clothes shops have prices printed on labels so would have to expend a lot of effort relabelling everything, online only retailers presumably don’t have this problem.

If you’re willing to spend £75 to buy the same pair of boots in another colour, I really don’t see why £5 more is a deal breaker

Volvemos · 06/11/2019 12:35

I think the fiver bothers me because they might be monitoring how a price rise affects sales and if a fiver goes down ok, keep pushing it up. So next time it’s £10, then the next time £20.

I work in clothing ecommerce and we put prices up and down all the time. Boots will always be cheaper in summer and more in winter. Sane as a bikini would be cheap right now. They may have put them up to make the black Friday deals looming on the horizon look better.

Lemonademouth · 06/11/2019 12:38

I couldn't get overly excited about £5. However deliveries and customer service from ASOS is now really poor. You can no longer guarantee the item will arrive - also I have found this idea of 'next day delivery' is meaningless.

Lhastingsmua · 06/11/2019 12:40

Online stores always tinker with prices like this. I agree that it’s likely due to an impending promotion, whether that’s Black Friday, sale launch or a random discount code.

Speaking of discount codes, you could probably find one for a least 10% off which would make these cheaper than your initial purchase.

Lhastingsmua · 06/11/2019 12:42

Asos next day delivery used to be amazing Grin back in my clubbing days I’d be able to order an outfit at 10pm for next day delivery - even for delivery on Sunday! One of the only retails that were worth the premium delivery subscription.

ferrier · 06/11/2019 12:44

I think ASOS lost their identity a long time ago when they started mass selling rather than offering what their name would suggest.
May be a more successful business model for them but it stopped me buying.

Volvemos · 06/11/2019 12:48

I think it’s maybe just the last straw for me. I used to have the free next day delivery deal from them.

Then they decided that my town was no longer covered by that, so delivery went from next day(ish) to being supposedly 5 days but often nearer two weeks.

They have also had loads of 20% offers on. Put them in your saved items it will be 20% off everything on Black Friday
