To think today's nursery menu is ok?

Toast
Veg puffs
Cheese & potato pie
Banana
Cheese & crackers.

DD is 2.

Usually one meal has some veg or there's more fruit but today's food doesn't look great.

She always gets a healthy light meal & fruit at home but for £55 a day DH isn't impressed with the food today when they employ a full time cook and a cook assistant.

We don't expect fantastic meals/ snacks but it's as if they had to use all the cheese ASAP 😂

Not sure if I should say anything to management tomorrow or just keep an eye on it. Nothing I can do to change it now anyway!

Don't be that parent

SnorkMaiden81 · 05/11/2019 19:58

It might have presented a lot better than written.

Look at how Michelin restaurants write their menus-

'Pig, Gourd, Braeburn - 48'

Invisimamma · 05/11/2019 19:58

A bit beige but looks okay to me, if the pie contains some veg.

And I don't know where you live, but £55 including meals is very cheap!

OnlineShopping · 05/11/2019 19:59
Grin
EmrysAtticus · 05/11/2019 20:00

Looks fine to me, I assume veg was served with the pie, our nursery only list the main item but all meals are served with veg.

BeardedMum · 05/11/2019 20:00

Looks fine to me

MustardScreams · 05/11/2019 20:00

£55 with meals included is a bargain. I pay £70 a day Shock

It’s fine to have beige food once in a while, although I would just keep an eye on the menu and make sure they do change it up often with the majority being healthy meals.

YouTheCat · 05/11/2019 20:01

That's a bit shit if a child doesn't like cheese.

Imknackeredzzz · 05/11/2019 20:02

I pay £85 a day. That’s ridiculously cheap , and he’s whinging!

Drogosnextwife · 05/11/2019 20:03

Maybe they did have to use all the cheese, not sure where the harm in having 2 portions of cheese is? She's surely getting some dinner when she gets home.

BeatriceTheBeast · 05/11/2019 20:03

It depends if the cheese and potato pie came with veg or not, but yeah, it's fine and £55 with meals is a total bargain for a 2yo.

Also, yes, obviously you "can't do anything about it now"...why do you say that? Is your DH behaving as if you should have done something to prevent it? Weird.

I might mention it if this was on the menu for a day every week. I'd just want to ask if they gave her veg too and if she ate it.

Thehop · 05/11/2019 20:04

We’re a small private nursery and charge £48 for everything. Depends on area for sure!

Menu isn’t amazing, but not terrible.

Keep an eye on it.

Drogosnextwife · 05/11/2019 20:04

£55 is average or sliggy above average where I live.

Drogosnextwife · 05/11/2019 20:05

Slightly

Hnt541 · 05/11/2019 20:05

Surely it depends on the area , I pay £38 a day - In the north west.
Menu seems fine I’m sure there will have been veg in or on the side of the pie.

MrsP2015 · 05/11/2019 20:06

Men 🤣🤣

Wow it does sound cheap compared to some!

No it was just c&p pie- no veg which sounds and looks so bland- love the 'beige' expression I've not heard that before but very appropriate Smile

Yes good point for the kids who don't like cheese...

And I would always be 'that parent' if I needed to 😊

Thanks guys

Agree with whoever said don't be that parent.

Yorkshirepudding1987 · 05/11/2019 20:12

We pay £42 a day including meals. Example from last weeks was

Cereal & toast
Water, fruit and rice cakes
Beef stew yorkshire pudding and broccoli with yogurt for dessert
Rice cakes and milk
Cheesy bagels, cucumber slices with fruit platter for dessert

He usually had allx2 for dinner and tea

blahblahblahblahhh · 05/11/2019 20:17

I pay £46 a day reduced to £38 a day of child is full time. Our meals are absolutely phenomenal!

Hellokitty82 · 05/11/2019 20:20

A bit bland and boring but maybe the chef was off or something?

I use a childminder (she works with her Mum who does all the cooking) and so she emails a menu out each week in advance for us to see as she menu plans and we can comment on it but I encourage my children to try different things but there's always "5 a day" on there.

She does a "fruit of the day" for snack time and then a "vegetable" of the day so the children see it raw, draw it, look at it then it's cooked fresh for them.

We pay £4 per hour so for an 8hr day it's £32 which includes am/pm snack and lunch. You can also pay for breakfast and tea which is only £1.50 if people need that but I drop at 8:30 (after breakfast) and hubby picks up at 4:15/4:30

My husband would be the same tho - part of the reason we chose her (she was recommended by a friend) was that she has her mum working with her doing lots of home cooking 🥘

Expressedways · 05/11/2019 20:27

As long as there’s a good day to day variety then I don’t think it’s worth being that parent for one day’s menu. If they consistently serve beige mush with no veg then by all means complain but you’ll probably be told that they’re serving what children want to eat. My child was given chicken, broccoli and quinoa for lunch at daycare today. The broccoli was untouched and only some of the quinoa was eaten. She loves cheese so would have been all over that pie!

MrsP2015 · 05/11/2019 20:40

Thank you all.

Putting things into perspective I've just read a post where a lady's little boy may have been intentionally sprayed with water by the nursery staff.

A menu is no issue when there's kids suffering in nurseries.

I'm back in my box lol Wink

We only get the basics on the daily diary but there's often salad, veg or coleslaw served alongside meals at DD's nursery. And there's occasionally evidence of sweetcorn Grin

Apparently she ate six cheese and tuna wraps earlier so whatever it is, she seems to like it.

TremoloGreen · 06/11/2019 00:00

What on earth are veg puffs?
