Should I let all my neighbours know I’m letting off fireworks on bonfire night?

So there’s been a lot posted in social media about letting off fireworks, scaring animals. I get it... usually I would only watch fireworks at an organised display but I have a son with autism who can’t handle the crowds at a display but absolutely loves fireworks. We have bought just a few garden fireworks that are labelled ‘low noise’ to let off tomorrow night.

If people are going to let off fireworks locally sometimes they post on the community page to let people know.

I have spoke to my direct neighbours about it and they are fine.

Do I have let more people know? I live in the type of place everyone moans about anything and everything.

Surely people expect it on bonfire night?

I won’t me letting them off late. It will be around 5.30-6pm and it’s only a few.

I don't advise people if I'm letting off fireworks on 5th November. People expect fireworks and can plan for their pets.

I always inform the whole street by flyer is it's any other date. I give people five days notice in case they have to make plans for their pets, and I always set them off at exactly the time specified.

It's polite and sensible surely?

I think you should definitely let everyone who is in hearing distance know about it so they have to opportunity to move their animals etc to a place they can't hear if they are terrified of fireworks.

My neighbours moved in about 6 years ago, we live rurally and back on to fields and fields with livestock in and also there are at least 5 equine yards in close proximity. They decided to let off a "few sparklers" in the field behind us without permission of the owner of the field and without any warning. The few sparklers were 1000's of pounds worth of fireworks which went on for about 30 mins and rivalled any of the planned event fireworks. Him, his wife and his two very small children stood in the field with this HUUUUUGE loud noisy display going on. It was carnage.. how any of the horses were not seriously injured I will never know because they were still out in fields, galloping wildly around and terrified. Most people's dogs and cats were terrified and a herd of sheep who were still out panicked and died due to shock. All in all it was a very unpleasant experience for everyone apart from the 4 of them standing in the field. I wish fireworks would be banned.

We've bought the same low noise fireworks from ASDA (son also autistic). We told our direct neighbour who has a dog we would be letting them off and they just said thanks, we'll keep her in. They were probably planning to anyway.

I wouldn't bother telling anyone except direct neighbours or people you know in your immediate area around the house who you know keep animals outside. I expect most responsible pet owners will be prepped for tomorrow nights fireworks.

I wouldn't OP as its expected on the 5th , and especially if they are quiet ones .
Have a fun night .

I think it would be very considerate and neighbourly of you to give me the heads up.

Someone on our Road's whats app group has asked as she has a dog with a heart condition and if ppl are letting them off in their gardens she will take the dogs away although I'm not sure where she can go that will be quiet on Guy Fawkes Night lots of ppl replied and so far no one letting any off.

We are in a town so very close together Victorian houses.

junecat · 04/11/2019 16:51

I don't think you have to tell people if doing it on the 5th but I would be really appreciative if you did x

Trewser · 04/11/2019 16:58

Just don't do it. I hate them. Buy some sparklers and watch some displays on YouTube. Can't wait for them to be banned.

I've just spent the weekend with the vet. A spent rocket set light to hay in my horses field and he has burnt his face.

They are stupid and antisocial.

Yes I do have pets

Maybe think of any elderly neighbours who might be startled by them or anyone with pets and give them the heads up. Hope your son enjoys them.
