Fireworks landing in my garden

Hi all, I need some perspective on this. We moved in a few months ago and people on this street had larger gardens than those in our old house, roughly 30-40 meters. Unfortunately last night some neighbours about 5 houses down set off quite a few fireworks which were loud and annoying but mostly as I don't agree with fireworks for private use and should be display only. My personal view though and I accept I can't have the same opinion as everyone. However I've gone in my garden this morning and found a complete fire work in my garden presumably used as it is open. This has really annoyed me, I could have been in my garden or my two year old though granted it is was late at night but that doesn't feel like the point.

AIBU to go and knock on their door very politely and say this landed it my garden and they need to be more careful? I don't want to annoy anyone being new neighbours and all but feel this is the exact reason people should not set them off in their garden?

You found a stick? Sorry but what harm can a stick to?

ScreamingCosArgosHaveNoRavens · 04/11/2019 12:53

YANBU. A few years ago, a spent but still smouldering firework landed on our neighbour's porch and nearly set fire to it.

spanglydangly · 04/11/2019 12:53

But how do you know it was theirs? Maybe someone in another garden let off just one firework and it landed in your garden!

YABVU and will not endear yourselves to the neighbour.

Also you weren't in the garden with your two year old so the "what ifs" don't count.

IShitGlitter · 04/11/2019 12:53

Am assuming it's the stick or the used tube so no visable fuse?

MinnieMouseMaze · 04/11/2019 12:53

Not a stick. A stick with the firework attached. Ie the whole thing must have lifted from the ground into my garden.

I just tutted loudly where i used to live and picked them up it is bloody annoying I also don't see the need for fireworks for private use or at least they should be more difficult to buy.

MissBPotter · 04/11/2019 12:54

Really nothing to worry about. Just put it in the bin and get on with your life.

MinnieMouseMaze · 04/11/2019 12:55

@spanglydangly bit of a coincidence with last nights crappy display not seen anyone else though granted it could have been.

Mrsjayy · 04/11/2019 12:55

Has it not set off ? If it isn't used I would take it round.

Sparklingbrook · 04/11/2019 12:56

Sometimes that happens. I wouldn't make a big deal of it, you can't be sure exactly where it came from.

spanglydangly · 04/11/2019 12:57

@MinnieMouseMaze maybe a coincidence but you don't know for sure?

Also that looks like a rocket they're meant to fly and leave the garden.

I'm not a fan of private fireworks but they're not illegal so unfortunately you can't police them.

malmi · 04/11/2019 12:58

There's no such thing as 'being careful' with fireworks, other than making sure they go up. They land where they land. This is a good reason for them being banned for private use, but given that they are not, it wouldn't be reasonable to say anything.

JasonPollack · 04/11/2019 12:58

You're being petty it's bonfire night, sorry.

Hingeandbracket · 04/11/2019 12:59

Well it won’t be long before people like you get your way OP. So you won’t have to worry about it for much longer

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 04/11/2019 13:00

*Has it not set off ? If it isn't used I would take it round.+

So they can set it off again? Like fuck I would.

MinnieMouseMaze · 04/11/2019 13:00

@Hingeandbracket I really hope so Smile

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 04/11/2019 13:01

Or put it in the bin?

Why the fuck work put an unexplored firework in the bin?

DonKeyshot · 04/11/2019 13:01

As you can't prove who let the firework off or how it came to be in your garden, I would suggest you make a note to make sure you check before your dc go into your garden around November 5 next year.

Bonfire night is tomorrow and it may be that you'll find more dead fireworks in your garden in the coming days. I live in London and often hear fireworks being let off for various celebrations. It's become a minor nuisance as I, sadly, no longer have a ddog who was terrified of the sound.

Pick your battles and this isn't one to start a war with your neighbours.

spanglydangly · 04/11/2019 13:01

It must've set off or how would it be in OPs garden?

TheQueef · 04/11/2019 13:05

YABU I dislike fireworks but by their nature you can't be sure where they land.
My garden is always full of the litter because people think lighting them at the edge of the field is safer.

MinnieMouseMaze · 04/11/2019 13:08

@DonKeyshot I think I reluctantly agree

OP posts:
MinnieMouseMaze · 04/11/2019 13:08

Do people not think about where they land? I mean someone could have been the garden and hit by it?

Tensixtysix · 04/11/2019 13:11

I'd let it pass. Not a good way to get on with the neigbours.
At least yours don't throw fireworks into your garden on purpose to scare the living daylights out of your animals.
We had a dispute with one of the teenage lads who lived down the road because we caught them hiding behind NDN car trying to set fire to a firework underneath it.
Later that night, they threw loads of fireworks into our garden and NDN (who were out), and their elderly dog was so terrified it shat all over the house.
The garden the next day was full of cardboard tubes, same for next door.
Police weren't interested. Long story short, he got kicked out by his parents as soon as he turned 18 (which was a few months later).
Serves his right!

Mrsjayy · 04/11/2019 13:12

It must've set off or how would it be in OPs garden?*

Duh me in my defence I am unwell today and a bit giddy on night nurse Grin

spanglydangly · 04/11/2019 13:14

Ahh @Mrsjayy hope you feel better soon!
