I've just sold something on Ebay and the buyer has just messaged to ask if I can send to a different address.
There's no reason not to, is there?

Yes there is as they can try to claim they didn't receive it. If you didn't think this was potentially dodgy you wouldn't have posted. You can cancel the sale, block them from bidding and sell it again.

ellesbellesxxx · 04/11/2019 07:38

You wouldn’t be covered by PayPal if you send to a different address

Nanny0gg · 04/11/2019 07:43

I wasn't sure so thanks for your advice.

Definitely don't do it.

Blossie0 · 04/11/2019 07:49

I've done it before as I thought having the email address would protect me and I got proof of posting from the post office. Didn't realise it impacts PayPal

HariboLecter · 04/11/2019 08:04

I often have things sent to a different address on ebay but I have these addresses stored in ebay & paypal and change them when I check out.

I'd feel iffy about changing it after they've out but ebay seem to suggest it's okay.

If you've already completed your purchase but need to make a change, contact the seller as soon as possible to let them know. If they haven’t already sent the item, you can ask them tocancel the transactionso you can repurchase it using the correct delivery address.

Tell them you can refund the PayPal payment and then they can repay with the correct address against the payment.

Piffle11 · 04/11/2019 08:56

Yeah don't do it! That's the whole point of Paypal 'confirming' addresses. Post it elsewhere and I'm pretty sure you void any chance of protection should it go 'missing'.

Piffle11 · 04/11/2019 08:58

Plus, I would be thinking that a genuine buyer would have asked this BEFORE placing a bid. Doing it after seems rather like they are expecting you to agree in order to avoid having the hassle of relisting and starting again.

onedayiwillmissthis · 04/11/2019 09:01

FYI...if you refund via PayPal a small amount is retained by PayPal so the buyer will not get the full amount.

bridgetreilly · 04/11/2019 09:10

I wouldn't assume that. If you have more than one address stored in Paypal, it's pretty easy to forget to change it to the one you wanted until after you've paid.

Darkbloom · 04/11/2019 11:08

I've brought on eBay before and asked for an address change after realising it was my old address ebay had. As long as you have proof on email asking to send it to another address, you should be covered

PsychosonicCindy · 04/11/2019 11:26

I bought something in eBay and the seller contacted me and said 'you asked me to send it to another address that's not your PayPal one so I'm just checking that's the address you want it went to' and good job she did check because I had sent no such message! So I was like wow can't believe someone tried to basically steal my item by contacting seller and substituting their address for mine! So we both reported to eBay. So your buyer could be innocent. Have you messaged your buyer to definitely check it was her that sent the message?

Tyersal · 04/11/2019 11:29

I had this recently, sent the item tracked, buyer said they didn't receive it and put a claim in. PayPal found in my favour because it head been signed for and the buffer head asked for the change via the Ebay message system

Nanny0gg · 04/11/2019 18:59

I messaged to say that I wouldn't send to different address but would refund and resend if she changed it.

Haven't heard back so I'll send to registered address

I wouldn’t do this.

Message the buyer again and ask them to confirm what they would like you to do. Tell them if you don’t hear from them within 24 hours then you will cancel the order.

You can do this and select the reason as “there is an issue with the sellers address”. You won’t get a defect, and I’m pretty sure the buyer can’t leave feedback either.
