And has it made you consider going plant based / vegan?
After watching it this evening my plans is to go vegan for 2020!
YABU - no, I’ll still keep eating animal products
YANBU - yes, I’m going or already are vegan

I thought it was excellent. Really thought provoking. As a life long veggie I’m slightly obsessed with protein and probably don’t need to be! Also fascinated by the stuff about b12. Not enough dirt, who knew.

I’m still thinking about it. Not going to vote as butter is one of my greatest loves but I’ve been cutting down all my other animal products anyway and I have a funny relationship with eggs which make me want to yack a lot of the time but are also my top hormonal craving.

If you liked that film, I can strongly recommend you read How Not To Die. It's a big book but written really well. I've read it twice now and it was mind blowing for me. I've been vegetarian since May and eat mostly vegan as well but I'm not quite all the way there yet.

LuluBellaBlue · 04/11/2019 08:38

I’m a massive butter fiend too @AnneLovesGilbert - in fact I just made vegan banana bread and then smothered butter on it! Shock
However I’m planning to use up what I have dairy / fish and then not buy anymore.
Thanks @hennybeans I will check the book out

This is a good bitter alternative. You can get it from Sainsbury's www.planetorganic.com/naturli-butter-block-200g/

For those who like butter, Flora Buttery is now plant based and is pretty good!

I have watched the game changers and thought it was great. My 13 yo has decided to go vegan after watching that and forks over knives. He was already cutting out dairy due to a suspected intolerance. He has been watching loads of YouTube stuff and was horrified to find that most male chicks born into the egg industry are tossed in a macerater at a day old.. never sure when you should make your kids aware of this stuff but he was saying “Why don’t I know this?!”. I have been veggie almost 30 years and vegan for a year.

If I had known before what I know now about the horrors of the dairy and egg industry, and the massive health benefits of eating a whole food plant based diet (which is my ultimate goal), I would have done it much sooner.

Another vote for flora buttery here

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 04/11/2019 12:13

Yes! Yes! I saw that film, and whilst I was already on the way to a plant based diet, it has solidified my resolve. Not had meat for 2 months now, working my way to vegan. I feel so much better-less bloating, sleeping better, my (ahem) internal workings are a million per cent better.
And I've not craved meat once. This from a previously confirmed steak blue, please!) eater

LuluBellaBlue · 04/11/2019 17:50

Great to know I’m not the only one!
I’ve been veggie off and on for most of my life as meat just used to turn my stomach when I was younger but I can’t ignore the health and planetary benefits to going plant based any longer.
Thank you everyone for the non butter recommendations- I’ve always been anti margarine in favour of real organic butter but need to find a good healthy alternative.
Or just eat lots of hummus 😁

Just watched this and as a veggie of 20 years it might have just pushed me over the edge - but I LOVE cheese.......maybe I'll just cut the eggs and milk to start with. I found it fascinating, and my carnivore husband said he might start cooking the odd vegan meal, so it could be a game changer in this house!

I might try some of the recipes too, they looked great.

NubianVeganQueen · 05/11/2019 22:31

Brilliant film. Very well researched and was entertaining. A lot of people I know are now trying more plant based meals as a result.

smoresmores · 05/11/2019 23:01

I'm a recent vegan (August) and life long veggie but it's convinced meat eating DH to give it a go! He's on day 3 and liking it so far.

PooWillyBumBum · 05/11/2019 23:11

I haven’t seen it. We are already vegan but for environmental reasons. Can anyone give me a high level idea of what the film is about? Can’t bear anything with animal abuse so have thus far avoided vegan films!

RoomR0613 · 05/11/2019 23:29

As with anything like this (looking at you Cowspiracy) I like to check the science and follow the money before I make significant changes.

tacticmethod.com/the-game-changers-scientific-review-and-references/ I found this a very interesting summary. Especially who directed it and where the money came from to fund it.

It's undeniable that we should be tackling unsustainable meat production globally and certainly in this country we need to have more plant based food in our diets, but personally for me I'm happy to continue to make good choices about where I buy meat from and how much I eat of it.

AnneLovesGilbert · 05/11/2019 23:45

It’s not one of those at all PooWillyBumBum, it’s mostly about food as medicine for professional athletes. That’s a very loose summary but it’s about how the body processes different types of food. Or touches on the environmental impact of the meat industry but that’s secondary and nothing on animal cruelty at all. Give it a go. It’s on Netflix.
