To contact the landlord?

Having some issues with my neighbour, noise, parking, passive aggressive abuse, etc. One of the issues is that she smokes in the house that she rents and the smell seeps into my house and means I can’t open any windows.
I have done a land registry search and found the address of the owner which is fairly close to my house but I’m not sure about whether/how to contact her? I’ve found a Facebook page for her business which I could use to message her rather than just calling at her house. I think she has a right to know about the smoking but I don’t want to look petty or make things worse. Should I contact her?

Is the rental private or managed by an agent?

Freixene · 03/11/2019 22:46

I don’t know and I’m not sure how I would find out?

Smoking cigarettes yabvu
Smoking weed yanbu

I would write a letter to the landlord at the address on the land registry. Either the landlord or their agent should be aware of the smoking at least from regular checks.
Definitely let them know.

Smoking cigarettes yabvu ^?

I disagree. Smoking cigarettes inside a house makes everything smell and stains the paintwork so the whole place would need to be redecorated before reletting.
I am sure the landlord would want to know.

If the neighbour is abusive I would think twice about putting something in writing to landlord who can then wave it in front of ndn with your name on it

I’d only go verbal

cabbageking · 03/11/2019 23:00

Put a note through her door and wait and see if she takes action or is not bothered.

Smoking may not be an issue to her depending on the contract but the noise and parking might arouse her interest depending on if you are being reasonable or not in your complaint.

I smoked for 28 years. My sympathy to you. I never realized how terrible the smell is until I quit 8 months ago. I cant stand to be around it. I would let the landlord know everything.

slipperywhensparticus · 03/11/2019 23:05

How is it getting in your home? Isnt that a structure issue? What happens when she burns toast?

Fyi I wasnt allowed to smoke in my private rental home

Freixene · 03/11/2019 23:10

@slipperywhensparticus
They’re old terraced houses with very thin walls which probably doesn’t help. Can’t smell anything else but the smoke smell definitely seeps through

Even if the LL requested no smoking indoors

How would they ever “police” this ?
