I posted a few days ago but my thread was removed ConfusedHmm

Have you got one?

What do you think?

For people who don’t know what this is, it’s an anti choking device for children and adults

ghostyslovesheets · 03/11/2019 19:17

advertising again?

NoHummus · 03/11/2019 19:17

Are you in especial danger of choking? Hmm

Schuyler · 03/11/2019 19:17

Maybe MNHQ thought you were advertising? I’d not heard of them before but I read your thread, looks interesting.

IrrationalIrational · 03/11/2019 19:17

No! This is a genuine question

OP posts:
IrrationalIrational · 03/11/2019 19:18

No I’m certainly not waiting for it but with small children you can never be too careful surely

OP posts:
Mumdiva99 · 03/11/2019 19:19

Why would you need one? Do you choke a lot?

IrrationalIrational · 03/11/2019 19:20

No. I have recently started weaning DS. I’m terrified he will choke tbh I am struggling with post natal anxiety I think this may be getting on top of me. But I feel this may give me peace of mind

Lockheart · 03/11/2019 19:22

This is not an AIBU.

Mumdiva99 · 03/11/2019 19:23

Haven't you taken any first aid classes? Back slaps, chest thrusts.....the actual number of children that choke is incredibly tiny. You can't get a device for every eventuality or you will have a hospital.... (On a first aid course I went on the paramedic running it said - thank goodness - that he'd never attended a choking call where the child was still choking when he got there. The obstruction had always gone....either by the child body coughing it up or by first aid. )

bobstersmum · 03/11/2019 19:23

Well there's your answer! If it will give you peace of mind then buy one.

IrrationalIrational · 03/11/2019 19:23

@lockhart okay

AIBU to think of getting a lifeVac?

confuddeledconfuddel · 03/11/2019 19:26

I have also thought of getting one, for peace of mind but dh looked at price and talked me out of it Confused

FleasAndKeef · 03/11/2019 19:27

The time that it would take you to find the device and then operate it would be better spent doing proper first aid. Look up a local paediatric first aid course- children's centres often run them.

PinkpompomDaisy · 03/11/2019 19:31

It’s extremely expensive for what appears to be not very much.

I had a friend who choked to death on a night out, she was in her early 30’s, actually she might have been younger.

If it actually worked, and was half the price, I might consider if for the home, or when mine were younger

( I know you can choke at ay age)

IrrationalIrational · 03/11/2019 21:30

Thanks for all of your opinions I’m going to look into this. I don’t mind paying £70 if it does work, but if it’s a load of crap I’d rather not take the chance of wasting valuable time

Sparklfairy · 03/11/2019 21:34

I get your anxiety OP, having choked myself. Even years later I'm hyper vigilant and aware of others bad eating habits putting them at higher risk, but say nothing, just feel horribly uneasy. If I had a weaning toddler I'd be an absolute mess.

Have a look at the dechoker too. In the event you have to use it they'll replace it for free (forever? Looks like it)

IrrationalIrational · 03/11/2019 21:43

@sparklfairy thank you so much tbh I am an absolute mess, I’m struggling to cope with it. I need some reassurance in case protocol fails. I choked pretty bad when I was younger, I think that’s where it comes from thank you again I’ll look into that

trixiebelden77 · 03/11/2019 21:48

If your child chokes please do not waste valuable seconds you could be using to administer first aid and call 999.

It would be very strange if you were so keen to ‘look into’ this but had not completed first aid and infant CPR courses.

IrrationalIrational · 03/11/2019 21:53

@trixiebelden77 yes I have done first aid & CPR

OP posts:
trixiebelden77 · 03/11/2019 21:56

And you weren’t surprised by the very out-dated first aid practices referred to in some of the alleged testimonials on that website?

How odd.

IrrationalIrational · 03/11/2019 22:01

@trixiebelden77 your going to have to be more specific in afraid

NannyR · 03/11/2019 22:02

I did my paediatric first aid course a couple of weeks and these devices weren't even mentioned - surely if they were proven to be lifesaving, they would be recommended and training on using them would be included on first aid courses. The fact that they are not recommended by organisations like the red cross or st. John's ambulance is enough to put me off them.

RiddleyW · 03/11/2019 22:03

It’s bollocks don’t fall for it or in the alternative stop trying to flog it.

Sallyseagull · 03/11/2019 22:05

Googled it. It looks and sounds ridiculous. YABU.
