No need for animal cruelty in films etc

Found an awesome film thread on here, but can't watch most of them as there is so much animal cruelty and killings in them, especially horror films.
I know first world problems, and it's not real etc - but I find it upsetting and wonder what the need is to have it in films and programmes?

YANBU

I totally agree

Unshriven · 03/11/2019 16:50

Well films full of nothing but sweetness and light would be a bit dull.

People need to explore issues through the arts.

You're not wrong. I even struggle with the second Jurassic World film with all the animals that are left on the island... and I know they're not real! I wouldn't let my DH watch it when I was pregnant!

meow1989 · 03/11/2019 16:51

Agreed. Theres a website called doesthedogdie and you can out the name of the film and it will tell you if theres any scenes including harm to animals and I think children. I've used it many a times.

DrVonPatak · 03/11/2019 16:53

Well, most of them will have a disclaimer stating no animal was harmed in the production of the film. For the most non-horror of them it's a part of the storyline that, in effect, only raises awareness of what goes on in some places. What do you suggest, that we all pretend it doesn't happen so our feelings don't get hurt?

Neron · 03/11/2019 17:01

That's what we use @meow1989, it's great isn't it

Of course not @Unshriven but at the same time arts can be explored without what I feel is unnecessary animal cruelty

@DrVonPatak I'm well aware it happens, as I do a lot for a charity that deals with it. What I'm saying is it doesn't need to be glorified in films

I find it quite interesting that so many people can watch human beings hurt in films but not animals (even though both are fake). Why do we feel more empathy for animals than other humans? I don't really have an issue with it if it's in context. The animals aren't harmed.

Rezie · 03/11/2019 17:11

I personally dont see much of a difference between cruelty towards animals and humans. So animal cruelty doesn't have a bigger effect. I'm not a fan of either

NormaBean · 03/11/2019 17:13

YANBU. I hate it and don’t watch many shows and movies because of it.

There’s a website called ‘does the dog die?’, not limited to dogs, that I check first as it lists any distressing scenes involving animals.

Sorry, very slow x post due to getting distracted half way through writing.
