Or is this person an eBay CF

Just sold something on eBay, auction, 3 bids, non essential house decor item, less than £10. The person has just messaged me to say they can't pay me until Nov 11th, "hope that's ok", no apology or attempt to actually ask if that's feasible. I've heard it all selling things on eBay and Facebook, but this is a first!

100% positive, 53 transactions since 2013 so they don't use it often, most of the feedback ironically says prompt payment ha.

I can't believe people still fall for this. ALL buyers have 100% positive feedback because it isn't possible to leave bad feedback for buyers!

orangeteal · 03/11/2019 08:04

@tectonicplates I didn't realise it had changed, you used to be able to get negative feedback as a buyer

Yes, it used to be possible 11 years ago. The rules changes in 2008!

But you can often tell a lot about a buyer by looking at their feedback left for others.

Weathergirl1 · 03/11/2019 08:56

Is there another item similar to yours that finishes within that time frame? Just wondering if they might be seeing if they can win that for a cheaper price before they pay you? 🤔

orangeteal · 03/11/2019 09:02

@Weathergirl1 ah sneaky, hadn't thought of that!

@Doormat247

TeacupDrama · 03/11/2019 09:13

Sorry don't know what happened to message there if you refund go to eBay help so you can cancel transaction and you w
I'll get fees back in future state collection within 7 days as some people can only pick up at weekend also don't take PayPal for collection items
Weekend

Doormat247 · 03/11/2019 13:27

@TeacupDrama we don't accept PayPal for Collection usually and stated so, but they paid that way anyway.
Can't really refund as was a £1 listing for a £100 item so if we relist we might get stuck with £10 of selling fees instead of the £1.
Also can't offer to second chance bidder as this isn't covered by the £1 listings either.

TeacupDrama · 03/11/2019 13:41

@Doormat247 go to ebay help right at the bottom of the page is an option for them to call you ( generally a few minutes wait) ask them if you can cancel as they have not collected once you refund your fees will be refunded
it is only in a few cases that fees not refunded like if you refuse to refund after receiving a return or a case finds against you and you still won't refund if you cancel a listing and refund you do get your fees back, ok when you relist it might not be a £1 weekend but they happen every 2-3 weekends so it won't be long to wait
but you do need to get in touch with ebay asap if you let it go beyond 45 days they can't help you need to refund first though when it asks reason say buyer didn't collect or escalate to ebay not collecting within 2 weeks is a perfectly good reason for cancelling
to be honest I would have refunded immediately and repeated you don't take paypal for collection items

Weathergirl1 · 03/11/2019 14:21

@orangeteal I'm a bit cynical so when I see behaviour that doesn't look normal I get suspicious and think through reasons that might be behind it! I bought a maternity dress at the end of August, it never arrived. I contacted the seller and they refunded straight away and said it must have got lost in the post. Then about 6 weeks later it was relisted exactly the same (same photos etc) - this time the highest bidder was lower than mine had been. I am waiting to see if it gets relisted again as my gut feel is that they didn't get as much for it as they were hoping. Of course it may genuinely have been returned to sender by the Royal Mail, but I'm deeply suspicious... 🤔

FredaFox · 03/11/2019 14:28

I've a like of stuff to sell on eBay but things like this out me off
If I make the effort to list my items, plan when I can go to the post office around work hours and caring for my dm I would expect payment within a few days
That said this is a lower priced item so if maybe give leeway but would be annoyed like no this wasn't requested at bid stag e

orangeteal · 03/11/2019 14:40

Perhaps I've been a bit OTT but I've asked for payment within 48 hours or I will relist, it just irritates me they didn't ask, if they had just asked me I wouldn't of had (too much) of an issue. Hopefully the other 2 bidders will be informed that it's back on, it seems pointless when it'll finish same time as this person is paying, but it's the principle of it!

Rafflesway · 03/11/2019 14:54

Buyers such as this infuriate me! 😡

I buy loads of stuff from Ebay - never sell - and ALWAYS pay immediately. Am I a weirdo? I wouldn't dream of treating a seller so shabbily.

I hate it when people spoil something great for everyone else.

orangeteal · 03/11/2019 15:45

So they've just got back to me "well it's fine if you want to relist, as your items have already been opened"....yes as mentioned in the listing! (About 6 packs of melts containing 8 each, 3 packs with a couple missing) clearly listed, photographed and reflected in price!

OP posts:
lljkk · 03/11/2019 15:59

I would ... very politely tell them that the best thing to do was to cancel "to cancel the contract." As soon as it's cancelled, put them on the blocked bidders list.

ime, people who ask to delay payment will never be able to afford payment.

TeacupDrama · 03/11/2019 16:53

people who genuinely want to wait a couple of days message before hand something like
" Hi OP
I've left a bid on your item but i'll be away over the days when it ends so I may not be able to pay till tuesday when I return is that ok?"
all bidders have 48 hours to pay then when you open a case they have a further 4 days so a total of 6 days anyone even if away overnight can pay in that framework
