Got this through the post today. I am 99% sure this is a scam... but has anyone received anything like this? Also I want to tell you if you if this is a scam and you get a letter like this ignore it and don't ring the number!

The number on the letter does not correspond with anything on their website so I'm taking it to fake!

Weird that there’s not a persons name and I can’t see a logo?

Alittleprivacyplease · 02/11/2019 15:23

A quick Google shows a different contact number. You could always contact Equifax on their actual number to check but I wouldn't call the number on the letter.

MoaningMinniee · 02/11/2019 15:24

Well done for checking! If it's not a scam, calling them on the number from the website should sort it out. But it looks scammy... no actual name given from the sender for instance...

Passthecherrycoke · 02/11/2019 15:26

No equifax are a credit reference agency . They have no interest in credit applications made in your name. They only provide information, not any type of security or investigation

RebootYourEngine · 02/11/2019 15:27

I would contact the company and flag it up with them. Their name is being used in a scam.

WTCT · 02/11/2019 15:28

Scammy scam scam....

NaviSprite · 02/11/2019 15:30

I used to work for a credit reference agency and my DH still does, we both agreed that it is highly unlikely this is real.

As a PP suggested maybe call Equifax on the number listed on their site for peace of mind and maybe to make them aware of the letter being sent as it may be that a lot of others find themselves receiving them, some may actually fall for it.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 02/11/2019 15:30

Scam - the language just doesn't seem right, even if Equifax did do this sort of thing (which they don't)

PennyNotSoWise · 02/11/2019 15:31

I'd phone Equifax on the genuine number from their website, just to be absolutely sure, and so they're aware and can maybe warn others of this.

NewYoiker · 02/11/2019 15:53

Damn I put the wrong photo up! It does has a logo. My gut feeling was scam but DH has severe anxiety and I wanted to check before I just shredded it without showing him it's addressed to me but he'd still call the number 'just to check' 🙄

Nothing comes up when you Google the number.

There are so many scams out there.

NewYoiker · 02/11/2019 16:02

I know it's awful isn't it? They got my last name correct and our address is correct but it's missing the house name.

Anyways it's been shredded now. I'll
Use it as a fire lighter tonight 😂 but if you've got vulnerable relatives.. please make them aware

I'd let Equifax know someones doing this using their name. They might not be aware
