To give into pregnancy cravings?

I'm just celebrating passing the 12 week mark of my pregnancy- I'll be bringing the baby up as a single mum as dad didn't want to know. This morning I gave into a strong craving of a huge bowlful bananas and custard . I think the baby enjoyed it as it was followed by an enormous burp! Grin
I'm really enjoying my pregnancy despite baby's irresponsible dad!

You go girl! I think that sounds like a great breakfast Smile

Geschwister4 · 02/11/2019 10:36

You go for it and enjoy your cravings. When I had cravings they were so strong nothing on this earth could have got between me and the desired food and lived to tell the tale!
Hope you enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!

Sexnotgender · 02/11/2019 10:37

2020bump · 02/11/2019 10:40

I really regretted overeating and eating way too much sugar during pregnancies, weight loss can be v v hard work and it was a factor in dental problems too! The extra calories are unecessary.

2020bump · 02/11/2019 10:54

Loopy this morning I was celebrating passing the 12 week mark so I'm going to try and be careful with calories!

Do it - I've had awful acid reflux since about 24 weeks so eat what you fancy now just in case!

2020bump · 02/11/2019 11:03

Thanks Katiei get indigestion but much less sickness now I've passed 12 weeks!

Oh enjoy that today - why not! It could be worse than bananas anyway!

I do agree with @Loopytiles that im still struggling with baby weight six months on despite being very slim before pregnancy - I’ve just found it impossible to eat well and exercise with a new baby!

But it doesn’t sound like you will be making a habit out of eating custard for breakfast.

2020bump · 02/11/2019 11:15

Definitely not Meshy it's s bit of a celebration day today

First pregnancy I craved Nutella and Jaffa cakes the whole time.
I never held back but had 5 stone to lose at the end.

This time round I’m 12 weeks and have lost a bit of weight so far, luckily my cravings aren’t as strong.
At the moment I’m desperate for jelly bellies!

2020bump · 02/11/2019 11:42

Congratulations Woodlandwitch!

It’s okay to indulge once in a while but don’t do it everyday or even every week - though admittedly that’s easier said than done!

PrincessSarene · 02/11/2019 11:51

I think we get cravings because we’re missing or running low on some particular nutrient in our diets. Therefore it’s a good thing to eat what you’re craving - assuming it’s not too ridiculous! E.g. I got a craving for a bowl of tomato soup - fine. Also got a craving to eat an entire pack of malted milk biscuits - not so fine (I only ate half the pack!). I’ve also found that I’ve struggled with appetite (nausea in the beginning and then stomach being squashed later on) so I’ve just been eating what I fancy when I fancy it, but trying to keep it all in some sort of balance. I took the same approach in my previous pregnancy and ended up putting on less than half a stone, which I lost within 6 weeks of giving birth. Hoping I’m as lucky this time too!!!

2020bump · 02/11/2019 12:09

Congratulations on your pregnancy Princess I'm impressed by the way you handled your previous pregnancy weight wise I need to take a leaf out of your book

OP posts:
Loopytiles · 02/11/2019 12:12

There’s no scientific evidence for that, princess.

PrincessSarene · 02/11/2019 12:35

Loopy I know there isn’t any scientific proof for that theory (but I’ve also not seen any evidence to disprove it). But it is the opinion of a lot of nutritionists. And it makes a kind of logical sense to me. At least for cravings that are for specific food types e.g. a particular fruit or vegetable, rather than just wanting to eat comfort food.

OP I think it’s just a question of keeping things in balance, indulging but in moderation and staying as active as possible (easier said than done as you get bigger though!). I’m sure you’ll do great. And even if you put on more weight than you would like, it’s only temporary and one day you will be able to lose it again. (That’s what I’m telling myself with this pregnancy anyway!!)

Billie87 · 02/11/2019 12:50

Congratulations! I'm currently 14 weeks pregnant and really looking forward to the next time I fancy some food or crave a meal.

At the moment I'm really struggling and feel so sick. Only managing soup, sandwiches and youghurts. Gone completely off my favourite foods! I've lost 6 pounds eeek. Hoping I get the munchies soon!
