To want a double buggy or something for my two rather large DS

Hi

I am looking for a double buggy or something where my older child can sit down when his legs hurt. My younger child 2 1/2 yrs is Autistic and a buggy is still needed for him, my older child is 3 1/2 yr and has leg braces and after walking for a bit is unable to stand and needs to sit down. I have tried many buggies side by side tandem and buggy boards that allow him to sit. But either the seats are too small, no leg room , too heavy for me to get up curbs or with the buggyboard it is a nightmare to turn with both children on. Any ideas any one, I really need to learn to drive but until then this is the way i get around.

Any ideas?

what have you already tried i think is the best way to start else you will be regailed with suggestions and you may already have tried them....

FWIW - I have an instep nipper - very light (9kg with no kids in), seats seem comfy (however the most upright position is still quite laid back, so for an alert child maybe not as ideal (DT1 has a cushion behind him to push him forward so he can see stuff), easy to steer (mine is non-swivel but cos weight is over back wheels really easy to steer.)

I have a twin emmaljunga and have noticed them on ebay. Very easy to push and manoevre, sturdy. The only drawback is it is big when folded and needs a huge boot. My four and a half year old climbed in to it yesterday while 2 year old walked for a bit and she fitted ok.

Have you posted this on SN and Multiple Births topics?

Maclaren do a SN buggy that is suitable for bigger children than a standard buggy is. I don't know whether they do a twin though. You can also get clips to clip together two identical buggies (I'll have a hnt for a url in a mo). I wonder whether that would be a solution?

Hi all

I have owned a Phil and teds, a mothercare double, mamas and papas side by side, single m&p with buggy board, Single urban with seat to go, hmmmm cant think of what else hisband could probably list as they drive him mad, but as I am the one pushing the 4 stone weight I think its only right i keep trying not to brake my wrists. There are buggies for older children such as the major which will cost me £650 and so buying two of those too clip together is not an option at the mo, plus they are huge when folded. Gosh I never thought it would be this hard. Need to try out the nipper and emmaljunga before i buy. will look into those. x

my nipper was £150 off ebay second hand. Each side takes kids up to 22kg i think?? correct me someone.....but thats quite big for a buggy

The mountain buggy double is great if you have heavy kids as it's really easy to push around (I have a bad back so manoeuvrability was the most important factor in choosing).

Might be a bit of an expensive purchase given the age of your two though, although maybe a second hand one might be cheaper?

a friend had a double three wheel mountain buggy (I think thats what it was called) and the seats where really wide she used it for her 5year old who had trouble walking due to an accident while her youngest was little

Hi,
I have the older version of the following BUggy:
Adventure Buggy website

And it is absolute fabulous
I have one of those single Buggy's with a Toddlerseat on top...super leg space either seat and brilliant to push

I got mine over a german website
link
If he still has a single Buggy, you could always have my accessories to make it a Buggy for 2, as I don't need the Toddlerseat, etc...anymore.

Meeely2 · 17/08/2007 11:51

3 and more that looks perfect!

Tranquila · 17/08/2007 11:57

would like to second 3andnomores suggestion of the ABC buggy co.
i had a side by side with toddler seat on top and it was divine. perfect accessories too - really big basket underneath which zipped closed and clipped off to carry as a backpack if neccessary. really well built and well designed.

i imported mine from NZ and there were some delays so i waited ages... is great ifyou can get it from germany now!

3andnomore · 17/08/2007 12:23

on the NZ website is a addi for a UK distributor

PhoenixCymru · 17/08/2007 20:48

Why is a major costing £650? Mothercare website advertise at £199.99

boysandtoria · 17/08/2007 21:35

I am sure on the special needs website it said 600 something will have to check, cheers
