Used to have an account here but deleted it.

Son (15) grew out of his coat a few days ago and I went to get one yesterday but he didn't want to come. He isn't usually fussy with clothes (doesn't care what he wears). So I brought him a lovely black coat with fur on the hood and he is saying he hates it because it's "girly".

I don't think that is so AIBU or is son?

What should I do

Take it back and let him be coatless until he CBA to go shopping

pictish · 31/10/2019 21:27

He won’t wear it, or indeed any coat, for another year or two when he’s frozen his bollocks off enough times for it to sink in.
Take the coat back. He either picks one he likes or goes without. There’s no point hanging on to it, he simply will not wear it.

He's 15. Give him the money and let him go out and choose his own! My son is 14 and there's no way he would let his dad or I do his clothes shopping!

fuzzymoon · 31/10/2019 21:35

Now he's realised he needs to help choose clothes.
Take it back and get him to choose one.
The style of coat you bought isn't great for his age.

Lottelupin · 31/10/2019 21:36

Omg. No he can't have fur on the hood. He's right.

Take it back. Face time him re replacement.

Andylion · 31/10/2019 21:39

Is it a parka? Of course a boys' or men's coat can have fur, but if he won't wear it, take it back, OP. But make him go with you.

I have never seen a teenage boy wear a jacket with fur on the hood, and I live opposite a secondary school 😂 At least you taught him a good lesson tho.

BrokenWing · 31/10/2019 21:48

My brothers all wore parkas with furry hoods... in the 1980s!

Don't think I've seen a teen with a fur lined hood in years, but they are making them so someone must be buying them.
