Rugby World Cup final

More of a WWYD.... DH is trying to convince me to sack of DD's swimming lesson on Saturday morning at 9.30am (we'd have to leave at 9am) and watch the rugby. "Once in a lifetime chance" apparently. DD has already missed quite a few lessons this term due to holiday, pool closure etc. She's only 2 so lessons are more for fun than learning.

WWYD? I already know what I'm going to do tbh Grin

I'd take her to swimming on my own. Why does it need two of you?

RuggerHug · 31/10/2019 10:53

Only if you're cheering for SAWink

SmileyGiraffe · 31/10/2019 10:58

@PanchoBarnes 2007 was against the Boks and Jones was one of their coaches. He was also a head coach in the 2003 final, so every England final in the professional game has had Jones on the sidelines!

I'd always want to watch England in a World final and he doesn't need an excuse to do so, but what an idiotic reason.

It would have worked for the CWC final last July as it was the first time England had won, but not for an event, which, as I say, is as likely as not to happen.

LolaLollypop · 31/10/2019 11:16

Was just interested to see everyone's responses on this Grin

I'd say I am a sports fan but not necessarily a rugby fan. If DD didnt have her lesson I would most definitely be watching it with DH. But she does love swimming and she already missed last week due to other plans.

So yes, I will probably take her myself, and record the match for when I get back. I'll just have to try and avoid any whoops/cheers from various people on the way back!

@Beveren - DH was never going to come swimming, he's rugby all the way. He just couldn't believe I was going to miss the final for a toddler swimming lesson!

You will never be able to not know the result!! Hmm

When we won last week cars were driving round with flags honking horns etc!!!!

Come on England!!!!!

beela · 31/10/2019 11:31

I thought I had written this post myself and forgotten about it 😂

My dd is 5 and she loves her swimming lessons and isn't fussed about the rugby. However, I would prefer to go and watch the final at the rugby club with dh and ds (and dd too, obviously). I wouldn't mind compromising and watching the second half but her lesson is 10am so by the time she's changed etc it will all be over...

PanchoBarnes · 31/10/2019 12:07

@SmileyGiraffe
Crap! I fully intended to add, in Yokohama,
to that list! Really! hahaha.
Oh well.
So, can ya let me slide, and say 'in Yokohama' now, please --
where I just happen to be, at the mo…
Thank you ever so much! Grin

I did mean Jones being England's coach this time round - but tbh I really didn't know about the 2003, and 2007 WCs, until I had read an article earlier.
Oh, and yes -- no reason needed to watch the WC, other than just wanting to watch it. (DH is happy that I want to, too.) 🍻

isthismylifenow · 31/10/2019 12:12

Well of course I am going to say skip the lesson and watch the rugby.

I am in SA and as you can imagine, the entire country has cancelled everything on Saturday to watch the final.

isthismylifenow · 31/10/2019 12:15

Record the match Hmm

You are going to know the result, even at toddler swimming I am sure.

misspiggy19 · 31/10/2019 12:26

Its not a 'once in a lifetime'. England have reached the final twice in the last 20 years, and won in 2003.

^This. Your daughter is 2 and loves swimming not rugby. I would take her to swimming and your husband can watch the rugby.

GreigLaidlawsbarofsoap · 31/10/2019 12:31

I have had the date of the final marked out in my calendar for ages but as you can probably gather from my username, I'm a fan. DH is on the dog walk duty on Sat morning!

Wakemeuuuup · 31/10/2019 12:32

I would skip swimming for rugby, it's a huge deal

TheFaerieQueene · 31/10/2019 12:35

Once in a lifetime! Ha. That is funny. Has he forgotten 22/11/03 in Sydney?

ajandjjmum · 31/10/2019 12:36

I would think most people will be cancelling the swimming on Saturday. Even if you're not a rugby fan, to see England in a final is always brilliant!

NameChangeNugget · 31/10/2019 12:41

Bin off the swimming

PortiaCastis · 31/10/2019 12:42

I'd cancel or record but I'm a huge rugby fan so I'm biased, my one wish and hope is our Cornish boy finisher can score the winning try, now that that would cause eruptions here.

tillytrotter1 · 31/10/2019 22:06

I would go swimming! I'll be sitting as far from any information about the game as possible as I'm the kiss of death and not allowed to even look at the result until I get 'the call'.

tillytrotter1 · 31/10/2019 22:11

You will never be able to not know the result!!

Of course you can 'not know', I didn't know that Andy Murray had won Wimbledon until my daughter phoned to tell me a couple of hours later, I didn't know they'd beaten NZ last week, I'm not allowed to look.

Years ago, pre internet etc. we lived in Germany and the Cup Final was being shown on Monday, a friend managed not to know the result until the programme came on, with the winning captain holding up the trophy being the opening title!

SauvignonBlanche · 01/11/2019 20:29

DH was never going to come swimming, he's rugby all the way. He just couldn't believe I was going to miss the final for a toddler swimming lesson!

I can’t either Confused

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 01/11/2019 20:40

Absolutely no question. Rugby final and swimming another time for any DCs.

Parttimewasteoftime · 01/11/2019 20:48

Sorry OP DS missed swimming last week for semi tried to convince him at half time 😲 He's not going tomorrow he does love the rugby 🏉 any sport actually tbf. I am so excited 🎉

altiara · 01/11/2019 20:54

DH was wanting to bin off DS’s football match, luckily the other team pulled out first!
I forgot it was on and was planning a food shop. Maybe I’ll reconsider as I do like a big final although empty supermarket is also a big draw!

PepsiCat33 · 01/11/2019 21:04

It's a world cup final, doesn't matter if England are in it every 4 years, stay home and watch it! If nothing else I'm sure your husband will enjoy it more with you there than on his own! I'm Welsh, don't mind who wins but I'm still watching it with a bacon sandwich!

Ijumpedtheshark · 01/11/2019 21:14

World Cup! I’ve sacked off DS’ swimming lesson tomorrow morning!
